I feel like there is something wrong with this trade. Did Fister lose his arm yesterday? Is he the equivalent of locker room TB. What am I missing.

Either the Tigers know something about Fister nobody else does, or this can't
make sense.
Do you guys want Martin Erat as well? I will see if Leonsis can throw him in.
The only way it makes sense is you're filling some back-end roster spots with cheap talent so you can sign Scherzer, Cabrera long term and afford to sign a closer this year. Dombrowski usually does these deals in reverse -- could-be-good players for ones that are already good.
Maybe so, but it seems hard to believe this is the best move the Tigers had at
their disposal.
I'm so pissed the Phillies couldn't have made a move for Doug Fister, especially seeing the return the Tigers got - Phillies are going to never score any runs against the Nats starting pitching at this rate

Fister will be a beast in the NL.
They must not have wanted to trade him to the Royals, because the Royals definately could have provided better relief pitching and really a better offer.
He was due for a bad deal.
Overdue actually.
While I agree -- he is definitely due to make a bad deal. This was the same type of reaction Tiger fans had when we dealt Granderson and look how that deal came out.
Scherzer won the Cy Young this year and Austin Jackson has been our starting CF for the past 3 years (or is it 4?). Granted Phil Coke is nothing special, but he did close for the Tigers in the playoffs two years ago. The one piece that was terrible is Schlereth.
From what I read -- Detroit is extremely high on Robbie Ray. 22 year old lefty with a mid 90's fastball. I don't know much about Krol, other than he had a sick ERA in AAA (1.21) before being called up to the Nationals and he was actually drafted by the A's.
With Smyly moving to the rotation -- it gives them his replacement in Krol and gives them a young arm coming up from the minors. Lombardozzi is basically going to fill Santiago's role on the bench and back up all the infielders.
I do know I trust the Tigers scouts and Dombrowski when it comes to making a trade -- they seem to be able to evaluate talent quite well. If Ray turns out to be in the Tigers rotation in a few years -- the trade will look great. I just think Detroit has something bigger planned, because they aren't built for 4-5 years down the road -- they are built to win now. So I think we will see Detroit make a splash with one of the bigger FA's on the market.
It doesn't matter what the Tigers set up for. it was a horrible return for Fister, regardless of any other plans. Just getting 1 player who is a top prospect would have been better than this deal
