Nashville has the worst winning percentage in the NHL when yielding the first goal of the game. The Preds have gone on to lose 22 of 25 games (3-19-3 record) when giving up the first goal.

This means that we need to stop fucking around in the first period of games and put this team away early. I mean, it's nice that we're going to break a franchise record for come from behind victories in third periods, but our players know we can't keep winning this way, they just need to start acting on it. The time is now!!

Flyers need to step up and get a goal or two in the 1st period - don't give Nashville any chance of winning

We have this tendency to go to sleep on defense and offense in the first period and teams know it and come out aggressively. They usually kill us on the forecheck early on and it creates goals for the opposition while we are still sleepwalking. This has been the pattern over the last 5-6 games.

Flyers have scored the first goal just once in their last seven games - need to change these fortunes tonight

This is what I'm talking about. Play a physical and hard fought game boys.

I think we're a much more effective team all over the ice when we're physical, we just don't do it often enough. If I'm not mistaken, in the last game at Buffalo, we were badly out-hit. That should never happen, even against the bad teams.

Well Patrick Roy pretty much stated the keys to overcoming weak tendencies. Turn up the physical intensity on the defense and consistently pound the puck on the opponents goal. Take every opportunity to pound the puck on goal and couple it with defensive physicality and do it early and often. Don't wait for PPs but just keeping shots on goal and turn the wick up defensively.

Usually we have been sleepwalking in the first period and that is what happens to the Flyers by the opponents. Thus, we get overwhelmed by early aggressive forechecking and goals and then have to play catch-up which apparently for some reason we like doing or at least we have been doing that the last 5-7 games. Mason has kept us in some games but here of late he has been getting overwhelmed and giving up early goals. Emery has done the same thing to a greater extent.

We simply have to get going earlier and not wait to midway through the second period to put together winning combinations on both ends of the ice. Otherwise we are get hammered at some point and won't be able to rebound which I hope doesn't happen.

I think the Flyers are similar to the Avs in the sense that on defense, we don't have any big time d-men but we have a collection of d-men that if they play the right way, can be solid contributors - hopefully the Flyers get off to a better start tonight and put the pressure on the other team

Well, we have yet another reason to blitz Nashville early tonight. Their starting goalie will be Carter Hutton. His stats are right in line with that of Emery, except he doesn't have a shut out and he's given up four or more goals six times in only 17 starts this season. In addition to being at home and riding the wave of emotion from the crowd, there's no reason not to jump all over this team early tonight.

Since today is Shea Weber day the Flyers will be handing out stacks of $100 bills as a promotion. Not too bad

I wonder how I can get one of those sent to me here in Phoenix? Wishful thinking I suppose.
