Was Skinner born in the Dominican? If so he is 38 and his real name is Jose.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger Carolina Hurricanes are no longer persuing Rick Nash. Cost way too high. CBJ believed to be after Jeff Skinner. Non-starter.

*sigh*

Howson fucked up. He knows he fucked up. The only way to save face is to ask for too much so he doesn't have to trade him.

Flyers - Giroux (no)
Sharks - Couturier (no)
Sens - Probably Karlsson (HA!)
He probably asked the Rangers for Lundquist. And the Wings for Datsyuk.

"Well, I tried. He'll have to stay here."

In other news, Ryan Johansen has shown up to camp at 225 pounds (he was 205 at the end of last season) and has dropped about 1.5 seconds off his lap time around the rink. He's visibly stronger and faster. Someone wants to center the #1 line this year. Supposedly he's moved in with a full time trainer or something and has not taken any "time off" since the last game.

Also, Bob has been telling anyone who will listen that he is going to be the number 1 goalie. He's been working with some of the Jackets D already and wants to know what they expect him to be strong on so he can work on it. If nothing else, he's got the right attitude. Anton Forsberg has shown great improvement so far, and Dansk has had a good camp too. Two Euro goalies this year?

And apparently Murray looks like he's NHL ready in camp so far.

Think he's tried for Crosby/Malkin/Neal/Letang yet? I just wanted to add him to that lineup..

A guy I know who went and watched yesterday said no one could seperate him from the puck.

Granted, these are all players with 1 year or less pro experience, but still...

That was the big knock against him last year, that he played smaller than he was. He apparently took those words to heart.

I don't think Howson takes into consideration that Nash's contract sucks donkey balls. That kind of lowers his value a little bit.

If he thinks that Nash is equal to Lundqvist or Giroux then why let him go? Does he not realize that everyone else gets what he's trying to do?

Damn that kid was scary enough when his playing weight was 190 a few years back. He's got magic hands and a great shot, which are well known, but he's also fantastic at playing in the dirty areas particularly in the crease. I lot count of how many goals he got off goal mouth scrambles just against Spokane, who had really good defenses the two years he was in the league. Sounds like he's gonna incorporate that style of play into his game at the NHL level as well.

That's what I'm hoping for. I remember Columbus tried to trade the pick they used on him and something else to Ottawa for Spezza. Ottawa said no, so the Jackets went and got "Spezza with an attitude" in the draft.

Would be great if they got Doan for the opposite wing and put Johansen at Center with Nash.

Nash - RyJo - Doan
Prospal - Brassard - Foligno
Umberger - Atkinson - Russell
Boll - Letestu - Mackenzie

Jenner, Mayorov (in Russia), Kubalik, Calvert, Bass and Smith in reserve

Johnson - Wisniewski
Nikitin - Tyutin
Murray - Aucoin

Golubef, Moore, Savard, Prout, and Holden in reserve

Bobrovski
Mason
With Dekanich, York, Forsberg, Dansk and Korpisalo in reserve.

Damn. That's almost what you'd call a team with an identity. No easy shifts against there.

bob has a fantastic attitude.. he brought that same mentality to philly.. the kid will work on anything and everything to get better.. his rookie season if he left the net (which, in his defense, he didnt very often) early in the season it was a goal against.. by the end of the season he was very competant with the puck and i'd say it was more of an asset than a liability..

he just hit a rough patch in february (like every flyer has done, every season, for the past 3 years) and fans/management (me included) jumped all over him and by the time the playoffs came around everyone had killed his confidence

no joke, i think he's a top 5 goalie in lateral movement.. he's unbelievably quick.. and very few people can match his focus.. before his first start (first game at the consol energy center) he sat in the stands like 3 hours before the game, by himself.. just him and his glove.. the picture is epic IMO

flyers got a good return for him, but i fully expect him to be a capable starter, if not elite starter, in the NHL.. the flyers just have 0 patience for anyone.

Cleary, Emmerton, Eaves, Samuelsson, Bertuzzi, Ericsson for Nash....

/quantity = quality, right?

How about:

(lets see the dandruf fly with this one)

Val (I never hit nobody) Flippula,
Thomas (we have to many centers already) Tatar,
Joey (a monster took my seat) MacDonald. (or McCollum)

:peep:

Tatar is a winger, and I've watched him extensively in Grand Rapids and he is freaking sick, sick, sick. Trust me, we do not want to trade him. Joey is a UFA and probably not coming back. McCollum is perceived around the league to be a bust already, but I'm sure we could trick Howson into taking him.. ("hey buddy, he's a former FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK!").

I guess if we're talking "real" proposals, I would try and build something around Filppula.

Silly...everyone knows the Red Wings don't pick in the first round.

If I had to make a trade, I would offer Filppula, Jurco, two firsts, and Ericsson for Nash. That leaves us like this:

Cleary-Datsyuk-Nash
Nyquist-Zetterberg-Franzen
Miller-Helm-Bertuzzi
Mursak-Abdelkador-Samuelsson

Kronwall-Quincey
White--Smith
Kindl-Random UFA

I have no idea what the hell we're supposed to do with Emmerton, Brunner, Eaves, and Tootoo. Maybe we could trade some parts for a serviceable defenseman.

Really right now we either need to go for broke and sell the farm on an anchor for the defense, or we need to start playing the youth. We have so many bottom six forwards I really don't know what purpose they serve. I have a feeling we are going to lose Mursak and Emmerton on waivers (and trade first round picks for them four years from now, potentially??).
