My thoughts on the game I've got to vent

Haven't done one of these in awhile, but I've got to vent. So irritated with this one. So many miscues, giving away a game we should have won easily.

The most obvious problem right now is our complete inability to score TDs. How do we have first and goal on the five and not punch it in? That's outrageous. We were the second-worst team in the league in red-zone percentage coming in, and I wouldn't be surprised if we moved into sole possession of first place today. The playcalling is the first place I look to lay blame. I love the creativity in general, but there comes a time when you just need to play sound fundamental football, and we just can't do that on offense right now.

Some individual miscues as well. Ginn dropped two should-have-been TDs, and Edwards and Smith aren't anywhere near the same page. I thought the first shot at the endzone was a good look if Edwards turns around faster. Smith was a bit shaky at times, but I thought he played more than well enough for us to win if his guys catch the ball. That said, Smith got really lucky that several balls weren't picked off this week.

The OL is a disaster. We can't block. Boone seemed to do reasonably well coming in for Staley, but the middle and right side of the line is like a sieve. The Steelers are going to rip us up.

As for the D, not a terrible game, except for, you know, three huge busts. That was basically their offense today, and it's inexcusable. Goldson going for the pick and letting Fitz walk into the endzone was terrible. I actually missed Spencer out there covering Fitz.

Run D and STs were great as usual, but it's not enough. Really, REALLY disheartening loss. It was a given at some point we'd lose a game that we should have won, but this one hurts. I really hope it snaps us out of our funk and we turn things around next week. We absolutely have to beat the Steelers next week. The second seed is huge. The Saints aren't close to the same team outside, but we don't have much chance if we go to NO IMO.

Stupid loss. But on the bright side, it was a game we could afford to lose. Maybe having this stinker now is a good thing, so that we can regroup and get hot going into the playoffs.

The only bad thing about the loss is it gives us no margin for error for the 2 seed. Maybe the Falcons will do us a favor and beat the Saints in 2 weeks.

Goldson also took a bad angle on the TD pass to Doucet...he wasn't even able to touch Doucet.

if staley is healthy i think boone needs to play RT and davis goes inside. we can't win football games with the amount of pressure being applied to smith.

we can talk all day about dropped balls and missed throws, but if half the plays get blown up by pass rushers it gives us less chances to actually convert something. not to mention the amount of negative plays we've had, and the stupid false start on the last drive.

That's not a bad idea. Moving Boone to RT and Davis to RG might strengthen both positions. Though I seriously question Davis' ability to pick up OG on the fly. He's not exactly a heady player.

This. I'm about ready to see if the Niners will cut their losses and make Davis a great RG & then go tackle hunting. It's slim pickins though. :(

I seriously doubt Boone would make a better RT than Davis. I know he's lot a bunch of weight, but let's not fall victim to the backup QB mentality. Just because Davis is palying poorly doens't mean Boone is better than he.

Yes the oline was atrocious which is why I don't understand our outrageously pass heavy gameplan today. We were great running the ball but did not do enough of it. It was almost like we were trying to prove or see that we could win by strictly throwing.
Overall I am very unimpressed with the play calls today. We stopped going to Kyle in the second half. WTF is up with throwing a fade to Ginn in the end zone? No Kyle and no Edwards around the goal line is criminal. Ginn seriously needs to stop playing snaps on O. That long pass he couldn't find and not moving around to get open on our final play were pathetic.

Great running is wishful thinking.

Gore had the 1 nice TD run but our backs have been approx 3.9 yards per rush since November started. O-line has imploded.

Oline is dog shit no doubt. But 10 rushes for Gore is a joke.

part of that is saving the hits for the playoffs. They aren't gonna say it but that is what is happening.

One was a tough catch for him in all reality because he has awful hands. The other one was downright embarrassing, he couldn't find the ball and it landed on the ground right next to him. I don't think he even looked above head level for the ball.

Their short yardage running game has really been hurting for a while now. Seems like they get beaten on plays where the point of attack is less mysterious.....really depend on misdirections and cuts to get yards, which results in plenty of good running plays, but plenty of nothing ones as well.

Smith was pretty bad today, obviously the problems with the blitz are comprehensive but he is certainly not making the right adjustments to get some quick plays going. Arizona did play well, not to put it all on poor play from the Niners....but just like everyone says this level of performance just isn't good enough for prime time.

We should of won this game....but with the help of the ref's and not being able to score td's in the red zone we lost.....but overall i thought the defense played well with out Patrick willis. But we still need improve on offense if we want to make a run for the Superbowl.

I kind of thought the refs evened things out as the game went along - This loss belongs completely to a failure of execution, concentration and strategy - IMO
