Haven't done one of these in awhile, but I've got to vent. So irritated with this one. So many miscues, giving away a game we should have won easily.
The most obvious problem right now is our complete inability to score TDs. How do we have first and goal on the five and not punch it in? That's outrageous. We were the second-worst team in the league in red-zone percentage coming in, and I wouldn't be surprised if we moved into sole possession of first place today. The playcalling is the first place I look to lay blame. I love the creativity in general, but there comes a time when you just need to play sound fundamental football, and we just can't do that on offense right now.
Some individual miscues as well. Ginn dropped two should-have-been TDs, and Edwards and Smith aren't anywhere near the same page. I thought the first shot at the endzone was a good look if Edwards turns around faster. Smith was a bit shaky at times, but I thought he played more than well enough for us to win if his guys catch the ball. That said, Smith got really lucky that several balls weren't picked off this week.
The OL is a disaster. We can't block. Boone seemed to do reasonably well coming in for Staley, but the middle and right side of the line is like a sieve. The Steelers are going to rip us up.
As for the D, not a terrible game, except for, you know, three huge busts. That was basically their offense today, and it's inexcusable. Goldson going for the pick and letting Fitz walk into the endzone was terrible. I actually missed Spencer out there covering Fitz.
Run D and STs were great as usual, but it's not enough. Really, REALLY disheartening loss. It was a given at some point we'd lose a game that we should have won, but this one hurts. I really hope it snaps us out of our funk and we turn things around next week. We absolutely have to beat the Steelers next week. The second seed is huge. The Saints aren't close to the same team outside, but we don't have much chance if we go to NO IMO.
