I think its a sign that you're getting old when you start listening to things you used to consider lame but still at least recognized as music or art to a certain level. 90% of the music I hear today just sounds like filler. This at least connects as 'music'

This comes off as a good mix of M83 and Gui Boratto. Probably my favorite song of the year


This comes off as an odd mix of Orgy and LCD Soundsystem. Its a grower and not a show-er.

Call of Ktulu......what a fuckin masterpiece. Amazing to think that's the same band that's been putting out mildly crappy material for about 20 years now. I suppose writing and performing songs like that is just more difficult than making Enter Sandman.

Though, just to add, their history is entirely different if Cliff Burton doesn't die after RtL. He was the guy responsible for a lot of the depth and complexity in their earlier tunes.

Anyone ever listen to this band Sparklehorse from the 90s - early 00s? Always avoided them because I thought it was a stupid name and figured they played bland pop, but checked out their most well-known album lately and holy shit its good. Made after the guy almost killed himself with an overdose, a very messed-up, broken atmosphere throughout. Far from crowd-pleasing little ditties....you have some spaz-outs:

Not the best, not the greatest.... but I like when Trent gets his haunted, sexuality and electronic thing on. NIN atmospheric stuff for when the mood is right. Atleast NIN is not on permanent hiatus, thank God and Goddess.

This song doesn't work at all on a bad soundsystem but I find myself liking it a lot when listening to it with the volume up on good speakers. The track generally reminds me of the first time I heard 'Starf***ers Inc and The Hand That Feeds. Its made for the radio and good for what it is but probably not one of the better NIN songs on the album. Hopefully.

Anyways, I was trying to find something new to listen to and this currently has a 95 on Metacritic so I'm giving it a try. Seems like a hybrid between good rock and screamy death metal...except the screams are muted a bit and it kinda works. 9-12 minute tracks ftw.

And I like it OK, its good, but I can't help but think there is just something too "hipster" about it. Seems like it was made by guys in skinny jeans and ironic glasses, and I can't help but think.....I don't even know how to put it. Like its pop musicians who thought it would be fun to make a metal album. The lead singer says he's a huge Emperor fan, maybe he's not lying......but I am suspicious about them!

Its definitely a hybrid of metal with something more Smashing Pumpkins or Out Hud. If you know who Out Hud is btw, you're a hipster
