Why would the league be concerned about how well the Coyotes are doing? It's not as if they own the team...oh wait.

credits to Lomabardi for having the balls to call out Murphy. It was pretty obvious from my point of view that the goal should have been disallowed. It baffles me that the war room in Toronto's excuse was that on the ice level view, Vrbata's head was in the way at the point of contact.

photo's to follow soon.

no need for photos, Dave's link says it all. any moron with 20/20 vision could clearly see it was a bad goal. Hanzal's stick never dropped below shoulder level the whole time. I'd like to shake Murphy's hand and squeeze it till it breaks.

Reading the TSN story, Toronto's explination for allowing the goal is they couldn't confirm Hanzal touched the puck yet the official scorekeeper has no problems crediting him with the goal. That's some fantastic communication between league officials right there.

The coach may get fined as well.
MURRAY: “I don’t know why we have video replay in the National Hockey League. That’s all I can say. If the replay is there for review of goals and non-goals… I don’t know. You’ve got a guy who gets credit for the goal. He’s 6-foot-6, and the stick is up above his head. Matt Greene is 6-3, and he’s batting the puck down his his hand beside his ear, and the net is four feet high. It doesn’t add up. It makes no sense. No sense. How does it get called on the ice a goal, first of all, and then how does the replay hold it up? I don’t know. I don’t have an answer.”

Fined 50k. Soooo, it's only 2,500 for a nasty boarding penalty that could've sincerely killed a guy, but inferring that a guy is cheating is 50k? Nice.

maximum fine for players is $2,500.
coaches and GMs don't quite have the same union protection.
on a tangent, the referees certain DO have that same protection.

I mean, I know GMs aren't poor or anything, but 50K? That's a boat load of money for a few sentences. Sentences that were clearly just out of frustration with the incompetence in the league. God forbid they punish refs. I mean, I'm not supporting fining refs for bad calls, it's too fast a game for it to be blemish free, but in this situation, when it was pretty much a missed call on the ice and in the booth (more the ice, because that stupid "indisputable evidence" line comes into play) people are gonna be angry.

they have limited choices of what to fine.
for players - $1,000 or $2,500
for referees - unheard of
for coaches/GMs - $10k, $25k or $50k. I can't recall ever seeing anything different.

criticizing the officials or the league may cast a shadow on Gary's Utopia... can't have that, now.
also, Go Phoenix Go? I'm not sure, I haven't finished the thinkspeak manual.

Oh gah, I didn't even THINK about that angle. It was against PHX too! This is horrible. NHL GM loses a game to a team being run by the league (basically) and one which the league refuses to give up on, on a bad call, which he questions, and gets fined a TON of money. Hah. Wow.
