Most pitchers are most susceptible in the first inning. But that’s been particularly true for George Kirby, who has a 6.30 ERA in the opening frame after getting hit hard today in Baltimore.“I wasn't really making them uncomfortable, either.”

Most pitchers are most susceptible in the first inning. But that’s been particularly true for George Kirby, who has a 6.30 ERA in the opening frame after getting hit hard today in Baltimore.“I wasn't really making them uncomfortable, either.”

Everyone knows George Kirby throws a very high percentage of balls in the strike zone

Really good hitting teams like the Baltimore Orioles the Yankees and a handful of others will exploit this with the top of their lineup in the first inning by being aggressive, jumping on the high percentage of fastball strikes that he throws that are very hittable if you’re sitting dead, red fastball as a batter

To counteract that he should just simply throw some of his other pitches at a higher percentage than fastballs to make it tougher for teams to sit on his fastball

Totally agree and I also think he needs to get the ball down. The games he has been killed in his pitches are not only strikes but middle-up strikes. Nothing down. Nothing on corners.

Pitching is just like real estate … it’s all about location, location location.

Kirby and a handful of other power pictures love to live or die with that high and mighty fastball up in the zone that hitters have a hard time catching up to and barreling up, It’s a macho thing I get it. I’ve experienced the thrill of busting a fastball by thousands of hitters in my life, so I can relate

But very, very few pictures around the league throw fast balls at the percentage rate that George Kirby does and it’s not because they don’t have a good fastball. It’s because they know that it’s a very hit pitch if the location is just a little bit or the right batter can catch up to a fastball up in the zone if he’s sitting on it.

You are spot on with he hast to start pitching some guys down and then down and away going to the fastball with a lot lower frequency than what he is right now.

Hitters are constantly making adjustments throughout the season and pitchers have to make the same adjustments or they’re going to get hit and be less successful

Anyone who thought Houston was done for the season after their horrendous start has not been paying attention to the AL West for the past eight or nine years

I know it was only a matter of time before they got things dialed in and started making a push for .500 and beyond

What gets me is how Servais keeps him in there well after he'd been shelled.

Normally, you get a pitcher out of there when you know he's losing control of the game, or you keep him in if he's having a great performance, for as long as he feels he can. Scott is doing this all backwards, which should come as no surprise as this is what he's been doing his whole tenure with us...

as if that's a surprise to anyone.

He's gotta go. He really does.

With that said, I am NOT looking forward to this series at Yankee Stadium.

Even if our pitchers do have good games, our offense is not gonna be showing up.

That lead in the AL West is as good as someone else's when this series is done.
