It looks like the Mariners will indeed call up Jonatan Clase to take Dominic Canzone’s place on the roster. Lots of speed coming to Seattle.
As the saying goes, you can't steal first base. So, get on base, kid. I'll be watching both Clase and Kirby.

Kirby needs a strong outing. Cincinnati has a young lineup full of talented, but over-eager fastball hitters. Off-speed pitches and sliders should neutralize them. Last year Kirby would have destroyed a lineup like this. But this ain't last year. Kirby has been rocked in two straight starts, and in his first start, his lone 'good' start, he walked two batters, which is extremely rare for him.

Ya I am clueless on the balk call these days as well. This I have never seen before. Only in MLB.
I'm legit confused about this because even the slightest movement by the pitcher can be called a balk, but in this case, faking out the batter isn't? I guess the reason it isn't called a balk is because he never put his pick up foot back down? But this whole motion is funky and should be illegal? Furthermore, is it possible to balk with no runner on base?

Crazy to me odd-makers continues to favor the M's.. albeit slightly, if I was a betting man, I'm taking the underdogs against the M's for some easy money. :D

This was after he bounced out to 3B on a pitch 6 inches inside. No need to throw this guy a strike.

Great win. Best I have seen them play so far. Clase was legit looking. He didn't look overmatched and he had that great rbi single. Crossing fingers.

If the picture even disengages the rubber by stepping back in an attempt to lure him to make a break for second, he’s automatically awarded second base. It Hass to be a legitimate pickoff move on the third attempt, and the third attempt Hass to be successful at getting him out at first base if that does not occur the runner is instantly awarded free second base.
How it will be enforced: After a third step-off, the pitcher will be charged with a balk, unless at least one offensive player advances a base or an out is made on the ensuing play after the step off.

--------------------------------

To me, and I am no expert, this means it would not be a balk on the third step off/pickoff if they get the runner out. I read that means even in a rundown. It doesn't make sense any other way.

George Kirby changed the grip on his slider during his midweek bullpen, going to the grip used by Logan Gilbert. He took it into the game tonight and got five called strikes and four foul balls on it.

Polanco on Clase, who Clase says has been mentoring him since Spring Training: "He's 22 but he's a very mature guy...he has slowed down the game. He knows what kind of player he is, he doesn't try to do too much."

OK. Good. I guess I can put the sore elbow theory to rest for a while. Even better was our hitters showing patience at the plate. And Clase looked good. Can't wait to see him on base with second base open.

Didn't do much at the plate but chasing down Clase's popfly down the left field foul line was pretty amazing.

I look forward to see what Clase can do. Personally I do like bringing up players that are an underdog that were never a top 50 or 100 prospect and giving them an opportunity. I know they will be motivated to play well and hard.
