I know shifting is still controversial, but saving 2.5 runs per 100 balls in play is pretty nifty.

I understand the shift and the numbers to "prove" it's effectiveness... It just looks so weird to see on the field

Looks like Missouri hasn't quite figured the shift out yet. :D

Curious to see if the new strike zone changes the mindset of the shift. With the strike zone being raised two inches basically one inch above the knee you could see less grounders

Do they subtract the runs scored that would of been outs if not in the shift or do they just count runs saved if hit into shift?

I'm pretty sure it's just the ones saved via the shift without trying to factor in if fielders had stayed in proper positions, whatever that means.

"Seems" is not a good word to use, I know, but it seems to me that we take it all for granted most of the time, and only go "OMG, I can't believe we used the shift on that guy!" in the rare instances where somebody actually beats the shift. It's overwhelmingly a game of pull hitters now since there seems to be such little impetus on trying to get batters to adjust/hit to all fields.

I'm sure there's a metric out there somewhere that measures it the way you're asking, though. I have no clue what it is.

I've got to be honest... I hate the shift... I hope baseball figures out a way to make the shift irrelevant... Hope the new strike zone helps...

I'd rather see hitters make adjustments to make it less relevant, personally.

I don't like it because I've watched my daughter's last two soft ball games and their coach had implemented the shift... The other team exposed it to a "T"... My concern is that baseball is sending this message to the rest of the world that this is ok... It's horrible for baseball, which is why I hope they figure out a way to get rid of it...

That is what is suppose to happen. It reminds me of the NBA and how they don't allow zone defense. There have become less shooters in the game which if zone was allowed that would change. Same with the shift. More pull hitters because no shift. Now there is a shift, players have to train to become complete hitters. It sucks now, but in the end it actually improves the game.
