It's Corydon, not Croydon. 99%. The built the Kinzua Dam in the 60's to keep the Allegheny River from flooding. No train station there. Population 285

My bad, I'm dyslexic. Croydon is on the Delaware River next to Philadelphia.

Nailed it; I assumed the only way someone would get it was from having previously seen the factoid on social media.
Wonder if he was a big drinker before the incident....

I think so. My mother in law only met him later in life and for his short visits to Corydon (he had moved before he hit the majors). I read somewhere that Miller Huggins said Caldwell had the best stuff of anyone he never managed and would have been a HOFer if he had crawled out of the bottle. Caldwell was one of the spitballers who were allowed to throw it after the ban.
