Was the voting for MVP always done before the playoffs/World Series started?
Excellent question, no idea. Especially back when the playoffs were just one series, NL vs AL, I could see it happening after

So POTENTIALLY, early MVPs took World Series performance into account. If that were the case (unknown at this point in our discussion), a player who may have been 3rd or 4th in the regular season voting depth could get over the hump with a strong series.

I have no idea if that ever happened. I am just posing the hypothetical.

Further, as you pointed out, when each league only advanced a single team, it would make more sense for those two teams to have the Most VALUABLE Player.
