One has the first name of a Championship winning college basketball coach, the other has the first name of a cowboy or hamburger chain.

Correct! I'm glad someone got it before I had to give a bunch of clues referencing his piloting abilities

I thought of him, but thought there was zero chance the Phil’s retired his number. He just wasn’t there long enough. 4 years = retired number?

The Yankees retired #44 and the A's retired #9 for Reggie
I assume either the Twins or Angels did not retire Carew's #29

Carew won 7 batting titles for the Twins. If they didn't retire his number, they would look like idiots.

Did Cleveland retire Steve Olin’s number?
They were going to but then they realized he didn't win any Cy Youngs or pitch a perfect game in the playoffs. But it is probably kind of an unwritten rule that players don't use a number of a guy who died during his career like that. No one has used Jose Fernandez's number yet. But in Halladay's case he was already retired so I'm guessing they did it for the family. He was involved in all kinds of charities.

I wasn’t bringing up Olin as an argument, it was a legit question. His death really rocked the entire sport. He was a young, elite closer, cut down in the upswing of his career (similar to Fernandez, but the circumstances around their deaths were different).

Ok, there is one player that has both a 3-run single and a 2-run sacrifice fly in his career. Given the extreme rarity of both plays, he has to be the only one in history to have done both.

Can anyone name him?

I couldn't even begin to guess. I'll pick the most random name that pops in my head...Ryan Theriot?

Good one though

Not Theriot. To narrow it, is a player who was drafted in this century.
I said I was just picking random names. This century? How about Joaquin Arias?

Both of those achievements have almost nothing to do with the batter. They both depend on the speed of the runners already on base. Guesses will be just that, guesses. If you don’t already know the answer, you can’t logically figure it out.

That said, I will start a brute force attack…

Joe Mauer?
Mark Prior?
Dewon Brazelton?

Ding.

The first Sac Fly in 2008 Carlos Gomez was the runner on 2nd and The O's Adam Jones slipped on the wet warning track after catching the ball, so Gomez was able to score easily from 2nd.

In 2015 The Pirates Jung Ho Kang was shifted from SS over to the 2nd base side of the bag at second. Mauer hit a ground ball right to short that rolled less than 200 feet before coming to a stop. Starling Marte lolli-gagged and Shane Robinson, Danny Santana and Brian Dozier all scored. The slow former catcher Mauer wisely chose not to try stretch it into a double.

I saw both plays live in different sports bars after work.
