In MLB history there are 5 teams that have changed cities AND have changed their nicknames. Name the five teams. Name what they were immediately before they left and what the new name was.

Technically, the Baltimore franchise had folded, and the scraps were bought as assets and relocated to NY as the Highlanders. So it is a MINOR stretch to keep the thread connected. But I think it is close enough to include here.

The Brewers/Browns/Orioles story is more complicated, in regards to your question, though. One franchise triggered your criteria twice, but was only counted once.

Also, if you just said “since 1900”, I think the answers would have actually been a legit 5. There was a lot of shuffling in the early days of baseball (before the very concept of “MLB” even existed).

Colt 45s -> Astros I consider more akin to Devil Rays -> Rays or Spiders -> Indians -> Guardians. Just a rebranding, not a relocation.

I don’t consider the Yankees move from Yankee Stadium to the new Yankee Stadium as a franchise move. The Houston franchise moving from Astrodome to MinuteMaid (Enron) also is not a “move”.

I'm glad they changed the name when they moved out of Grand Rapids. My great Uncle Harvey LaZboy found the name disgusting and offensive. Although I wish they would have called them the Columbus Indians. That has a nice ring to it.
