Okay so if the Coyotes lose 50 million over 5 years the owner can move the team. Now that we know McDavid & Eichel aren't coming does anyone think the Coyotes won't lose at least 50 million during that time span? Moving them to Las Vegas would be a short trip.

It's amazing what winning can do. Don Maloney doesn't seem to get it though. They signed Smith which was fine. However, Vrbata obviously took a look at the roster & said goodbye. The organization then bought out Mike Ribeiro the teams 1st line Center & best forward because of something he did off the ice. Instead of replacing Ribeiro with a legit scorer/playmaker, Maloney acquired Sam Gagner from Tampa Bay. I realize all he gave up was a 6th round pick, but jeez. Mark Arcobello led the team in goals & he was acquired off waivers from Pittsburgh. Yandle was leading the team in points before he was traded. After the trade Ekman Larsson became the team leader in points.

I know they have high hoped for Domi & Duclair, but they need so much help at forward they might as well start from scratch.

The Kings are in the bottom 5 and they are one of the biggest movers on the list. That is a far bigger problem.

Even bigger? That statement is also true for the team they share the country's second largest media market with.

I saw that as well. I think that is based on percentage of viewers, not total people viewing. When 25% of your market does not speak English (just a made up number it might be more) it can sway the percentage a lot.

Just some numbers, that are a little old so the non English percent would be higher now

According to the 2006-2008 American Community Survey, the linguistic composition of Los Angeles was as follows out of a population of 3,473,790 people over the age of 5:[4]

  • Language other than English: 59.8% (2,076,235)
    • Speak English less than "very well": 30.5% (1,058,358)
  • Spanish: 43.6% (1,513,106)
    • Speak English less than "very well": 23.2% (806,252)
  • Asian languages and Pacific Islander languages: 7.9% (275,109)
    • Speak English less than "very well": 4.0% (140,058)
  • Other languages: 1.3% (45,559)
    • Speak English less than "very well": 0.4% (13,141)

I did take that into account, and also .57 in a market with 5.5 million TV's is worth probably 2.0 or higher even in a smaller one like PIT or BUF. But even with that, they trail in total number of TV's tuned in to these much smaller markets by hundreds of thousands and there I start to lose sight of the justification for a team like the Ducks being in existence.

Vegas Baby

“I want the community to know that I’m here to answer questions,” Foley said. “I’m a part of the community. I’m embedded in the community. This is all a part of me getting in front of everyone so they can see I’m not some strange guy that’s going to sit back in an office somewhere.”

Foley snapped the pro-Chicago Blackhawks crowd's concentration on their team's 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks when he released the latest numbers from his organization's season-ticket drive. Foley reported they had secured 11,500 deposits to go with 1,000 commitments from corporations and 735 suite seats.

“To me, that’s a statement,” Foley said. “Our goal was 10,000, and we’re still selling tickets.”

He announced that half- and quarter-season packages are now available and should boost the figures.

The total sales of 13,200 tickets over the last three months left Foley “pleasantly surprised.” Preliminary market research made him believe Las Vegas was capable of the level of support, but he expected a bigger challenge in securing deposits for a team that’s purely hypothetical.

“Las Vegas has done its job,” Foley said. “Now we’ve presented the information to the league. I’m very confident, but we have to wait for the league to respond.”
