The illadvised Kimbrell trade is making it harder than necessary to add a Sonny Gray or a Teheran.

Look, the man's results speak for themself.

He was the key architect in the 2003 champion marlins and got Detroit to 2 World Series (where they badly, laughably choked in both....not the point).

but no GM is gonna be infallible. But he badly missed on the SP market.

Price and Cueto should've been signed this year, or your premium assets like Margot, Guerra and Logan Ryan (who is DESTROYING full season A ball as a just turned 19 year old kid) should've been in a deal for Ty Ross or Sonny Gray, not for a closer, not even Rivera types.

2 of the top 50 prospects in the game is a good start to any deal, and right now Logan Allen is killing it. He's gonna be high on the lists next offseason.

DD badly overpaid for a closer.

I may be jumping the gun on that one but if he is supposed to be this "great" guy he should have done better imo and it is proving my point right now

I mean, Kimbrell is one of the best closers in the game and getting Price was basically a must.

Chris Young has also looked good.

The man also inherited a dumpster fire of bad contracts and players.

Buchholz (who should'e been traded by Benny Boy last july)
Fat Panda
Hanely
Rusney
Craig
Joe Kelly

now a few of those guys will be gone after this year.

Others are gonna languish in AAA taking up the valuable payroll space that could've brought Cueto here.

I mean shit, trading Buchholz last year and simply NOT trading Lackey and letting him leave as a FA this year and the Sox clear enough room for Cueto.

Not all DD's fault.

Although when ownership's pitch to price was they had payroll room for 2 $30M pitchers and they don't go get Cueto...I'm curious whose fault that was.

Dombrowski is no good.

The years the Tigers were winning the AL Central, the division was historically weak and even then, the Tigers usually only took the division by a game or two. Plus, he was SIGNIFICANTLY outspending his divisional rivals. Highly overrated.

Frankly, I was sad to hear that he was leaving the Tigers because I think he was a liability for them. Of course, if he had to go, I was glad to see him head to Boston because fuck the Red Sox right in their pussy.

Look at the shit show he left in Detroit. Aging, expensive roster. Barren farm system.

Lackey had to go. The relationship had grown too toxic. Of course, it's entirely possible that the Red Sox front office was the catalyst for the toxicity with one of their PR smear campaigns, but I don't know that. Fact is, a change of scenery was needed.

That said, letting Lester walk was fucking stupid.

Did I mention fuck the Red Sox?

The back-end of the Sox rotation is frustrating, but I think you guys are overreacting a bit. There's not a lot of steady back-end rotation pitchers to begin with. You want to know why? Because most back-end rotation guys are shitty pitchers. Price/Wright/Porcello are fine, though Wright won't finish with an ERA near 2.00. You also have to remember Eduardo Rodriguez was hurt and his rehab time in Pawtucket was pretty much his Spring Training.

The Sox have outscored their opponents by 82 runs this year. This is easily some of the best baseball they've played since 2013. They're a lot more fun to watch than in 2014 or most of 2015.

It's not like the Jays/Orioles have great pitching staffs themselves either. The division is an absolute clusterfuck.
