For 1.8 million... will be going to the Brewers... good luck to him. Huskers never had a shot. Good thing we got Stringfellow as a transfer.

I guess the $1.8 million bonus he got was $700,000 over the value of the slot he was taken so he got the big money.

At least it happened fast and wasn't dragged out till the last minute like Starling was. We all knew it was probably a longshot for him to not to the MLB route.

He'll spend it all in the first couple months on cars and a house and clubbin' and "investments" and then he'll be miserable like everyone else.

Just bein real about it.

There was a good 30 for 30 on athletes who go for the green and then don't realize that the value of the cash is actually not limitless.

Charles Barkley spent like 50 million on slot machines in Vegas and Atlantic City.

Stringfellow truly does soften the continual blow that will reverberate for a looooong time.

JJM i feel like most MLB players are pretty damn smart about their money. much smarter than NFL and NBA players at least

they realize that getting drafted doesn't mean ever actually making the team so i think they manage their money a lot better

Well chuck......honestly I just think that MLB players are paid so much more that they actually can't find a way to blow it as easily

Good luck to Monte.

As I recall, he really loves baseball, and the 1.8 million is around $1,000,000 to him. If I was 18 and someone offered $1,000,000 cash in my pocket to play the sport I love, I would do it.

Hopefully, he blows $50,000 on dumb stuff to get it out of his system, buys his Mom a house, and he and she live there, and at least invests $500,000 in some nice dividend reinvestment plans(AWK, WTR, DUK, PFE are all good) he can do alright.

Of course, he will learn that when you buy a house you have property taxes, utility bills, insurance, and maintenance. Houses are not just free. Same for cars, license plates, gas, and insurance.

He should use Lebron James as his model. Lebron talked to Warren Buffet as I recall to learn about investing. It was probably over his head at the time, but if Lebron absorbed 10% from Warren, he is doing fine.

Congrats to Monte.

The thing with the MLB draft is that it is so drastically different from any other sport's draft. The kids out of high school and 3 years out of high school have all the power and leverage. They will tend to get draft a little high because the teams want to impress them and give them an incentive to sign. The players can ask for so much more money because if the team doesn't want to pay it then the player can just go to college or go back to college. You tend to see college seniors slip a bit in the draft or sign for lesser money because they have no leverage. They either go pro or get a "regular" job.

Khiry Cooper did that. He got drafted out of high school. Asked for a ton of money trying to play his leverage. The team said no so he came to Nebraska. I realize he was drafted in the 5th round out of high school and this kid, that is the title of this thread, was in the 2nd round but the 5th is still damn good.

Sometimes it isn't always better to come to college.

Hopefully he can be better than Bubba. He is hitting below .200 this year and is gaining ground on "bust label".

Maybe he can talk through the emotional stress of that label with his banker.

He can always come back to college. Aint no coming back to college once you've sold your body out on the field for 4-5 years for a college education to be part of the 1.3% of Americans who actually make the NFL. (I did the research after your spiel regarding the likelihood of making it).
