As shark said, what choices do we have? With all those that are down on cousins, I've asked this question and I never get an answer. Also, it's readily apparent that KC is improving. This is what all inexperienced QBs go through. The good ones learn from their mistakes and improve over the course of a season or two.

As for Gruden, I'm not sold but I also recognize the shit storm he walked into last year. I almost have to give him a pass for last year. I concur with dad when he says that new coaches deserve a minimum of 3 years to prove themselves. Barring some unforeseen meltdown, Gruden deserves another year.

Admitting there might be another choice isnt the same as not having an answer. Im not anti sticking with Cousins or Gruden but I also dont see why we cant consider moving on from them too.

I'm not wed to either.....but who can come in here and make us better next year? I'll also say this. Gruden gets fired and we won't get anyone to take that job except for the desperate candidates. Washington is the place HCs come to see their careers die. We need to stop reloading every 2 or 3 years and actually give a guy a real, unimpeded chance to implement his plan with his people.

Moving on from either or both sets this team back another three years. Realistically Gruden SHOULD get another two years considering that year one was wasted on the Griffin Reclamation project, as well as the past off season. While Cousins has been in the league for four years, he has actually started a little over 1 seasons worth of games. He has shown improvement, and aside from retreads like Cassell, Stafford and likely Bradford... there is not likely to be a better option at QB going into next year. Goff is a more expensive version of Cousins, and unless we totally shit the bed over the rest of the season, we wont be in a position to draft him in any case. Yes sure, we could luck into another coach and QB if we decided to just go that route. But more than likely we end up with a retread coach or a coordinator in over his head. Add to it a retread QB or a rookie thrown in too soon and we will be having this same conversation in two years. We need to hang onto Cousins provided he continues to improve, and take our lumps for the Griffin fuckup and allow Gruden to actually help rebuild this team since the rebuild really only started two months ago.

Maybe a rookie. Maybe a QB becomes available for some reason. Who knows. Most likely we're watching Cousins and Gruden again next year and Im not saying theres anything wrong with that.

I disagree on the HC thing though. I dont buy that only desperate candidates would come. We may not get the big name coordinators. MAY not get them. But even if we don't I dont really care. There are a lot of football coaches out there.

Ehh I dont really think its true that it adds 3 years to our rebuild replacing either. If you get a better coach and a better QB thats not going to set you back. So while its not a guarantee we can improve on either its also not a guarantee that replacing them sets us back at all.

As for Goff, we probably cant get him but really we dont know. QBs have fallen before and it will happen again.

The reality is that every year there are 5-7 HC vacancies. If we are in that pool, given our history of firing HCs before they can implement their plans, means we will be the last choice for any qualified candidates. Which means we get the leftovers. That is how we end up with the Zorns and the Gruden type coaches. So if that is what we get, why nOt let our current guy finish his rebuild?

Now I heard on the NFL channel this morning that Sean Payton might leave NO after this season. He is the only name I have heard that, if we could land him (which I seriously doubt), he would be an definite upgrade. But just bringing in another no name coordinator is riskier than just staying with what we have.

My point is that I dont care if we get the leftovers. There are a lot of good coaches in the leftovers. A lot of bad ones sure but a lot of the top candidates bust anyway.

Why is it, every one who seems to want Gruden fired and Cousins gone... also thought Griffin should have gotten another year to fuck this team over?? Seriously.... Most of the people calling for their heads week one fall into this group. Now you are sitting here saying you really think that we could actually improve by firing Gruden after year two and looking for another QB and think it will take less than 3 years to recover?? Who was the last NEW HC to come in and actually improve on his team for more than a fluke season?? The best way to build a team is stability. The best way to continually fuck up a team is constantly changing coaches and players every two years.

I don't even know how to respond to this. So I won't.

Did I miss something what does RG3 have to do with this? I didnt mention him or say he shouldve started...?

Ive listed HCs before that increased their teams wins and there was a solid handful of them. To say they dont exist is just a lie.

I think you're misunderstanding my point. The hiring process is screwed up. The top candidates arent necessarily the top candidates. What you are calling the leftovers shouldnt always be the leftovers. You can ignore this and act like its a crazy idea but you'll be wrong.

So who is out there that will make us a better team next year if we hired them and fired Gruden? And why do you believe they would come here?

Also next time you decide not to respond - try actually doing it.
I didn't. You don't want to know what I would have responded with if I decided to.

It's gonna sound like a copout but it's not my job to know. We have a GM I think we all finally trust who will have that task if we do move on from gruden. But it's been proven in the past that those coaches are out there. A name somebody mentioned 2 years ago that I found interesting was Rich Bisaccia but I don't really remember where I read about it.

Point is, coaching is a lot more than being a good coordinator so just looking at the hot coordinators is far too simplistic a way to find a new coach.

I would love to see an answer to this more than simply... we MIGHT find some one better.

So would I but thats not the world we live in. Nothing is certain - doesnt mean we shouldnt try to make smart decisions because we arent guaranteed a good result. You'd never make a decision.

Meanwhile here you sit claiming that Cousins and Gruden MIGHT be the answer.

Hmmmmmm :noidea:

Nope... IM claiming that stability and building the TEAM under our new GM is a better reaction that well Gruden should be fired because he failed to develop the other QB. Im also saying that an improving Cousins and Gruden going into the 3rd season is better for the team than rolling the dice on another coach and wasting another three years searching for the next great hope. Again, give me a better option that wont waste the next three years and Im all ears. But taking the roll the dice approach is just wasting more time and deep down you know Im right.

Look you can claim that all you want. And we can debate it all we want. But you cant poke fun at a plan for MAYBE working when your preferred plan only MIGHT work. I mean, cmon. Thats pretty stupid.
