Movin' On Forward
After missing the Playoffs with a boatload of good but not great veterans, the Jazz clearly need to rebuild. Out of Utah's threesome of talented free agents (Jefferson, Millsap, and Williams), Williams is the one I believe has the best chance of re-signing with the team. I think he would make an excellent veteran voice on a young team.
People assume it's because of my LeBron hatred, but I truly believe Mo is a better player right now than he ever was in Cleveland. Once thing's for sure - He's far and away a more mature player now, whereas in Cleveland he played too much like it was his right to play for such a great team. He also averaged more assists in 2012-13 in Utah than he ever had playing alongside LeBron in Cleveland. His absence for half the season due to thumb surgery was likely the biggest factor in the Jazz failing to reach the Playoffs.
In addition to Utah, I also see him being a fit in Detroit, who desperately needs a PG. Though the Pistons might be better served holding out to see if Brandon Jennings becomes unrestricted next year. I personally hope Mo Williams doesn't take a cheap deal to latch on with a contender. I think he has more to offer than that. Put him on the Heat and he instantly becomes Mario Chalmers.
I think his best bet would be to re-sign with Utah to help mentor young bigs Kanter and Favors as well as guard Trey Burke.
Thoughts?
