ey Guys name is Matt Johsnon I am a recent graduate of Cosumnes Oaks High School in Sacramento, CA. I have aspirations of becoming a sports writer (wouldn't mind NFL or MLB) and run my own sports blog. Here are my MLB Power Rankings Week 7

24/7 Sports Zone: MLB Power Rankings Week 7

Please let me know what you guys think. I know I still have a while to go have to improve my grammar and writing skills. But any constructive criticism is more then welcome. Thanks again

The main thing I have to say (critically, I mean), is this...

PROOF READ.

And when you are done with that...

PROOF READ.

For posting on a message board, missed words is no big thing. I do it ALL the time. But if you are looking to publish, you will lose credibility from your readers with these small mistakes. Remember, your readers do not know you. They do not know that you know your shit. They do not care that you have put in a ton of hours to write that article. All they see are a few missed words, and they move on to DrB, Grant, Fangraphs, etc. You have to LOOK like you know your shit, even more than actually knowing it. Competence perceived is competence achieved.

The next part to proof reading is you will miss small errors. For example, you said that the Twins took a game from the Nats. I thought I had missed the first inter league weekend, so I had to look it up. The Twins have not played the Nats yet. When you betray the readers trust (you tell them something factually untrue), you lose them.

In business, they say it costs 10X more money to get a new customer than it does to keep the one you have. Do not lose the people who happen across your blog by failing to proof read your work. You OBVIOUSLY put in a LOT of time putting that together. Don't ruin it by not spending that last 10 minutes.

Overall it was good. I am only commenting on the negative because I think you learn more by fixing the bad.

What my esteemed colleague says. If it is internal, let 'er rip. But anything, ANYTHING, that goes to the wider public, must be immaculate. I tell my students that if their brilliant ideas have bad grammar and have lots of typos, no one will really take their ideas seriously. I wish that wasn't true, but it is reality.

Good luck to you!

Oh, and Matt, if you can get stuff to fly on this board, you are doing a helluva job. We can be a pretty tough crowd at times. We really welcome your participation, and appreciate your being a Giants fan.
