They probably just believe they have a good case with the grievance, no?
The union thinks they can win $900,000 up to $1 billion in an unfair labor practice grievance, accusing the owners of stalling for a shortened season. Which to be fair, 100% the owners stalled for a shortened season. But good luck proving that. Not too mention the players are just at fault for this season being shortened. I'm not an expert in these areas, but i would give it less than a 5% chance of the players ever receiving money from that grievance.

How's that

They already agreed to a deal that gave Manfred this power. Knowing that they had no leverage they doubled down on stupid over ten flipping games

What do you mean by "how's that?" How do they believe that they have a good case? You'd have to ask someone else for that answer, I would only be speculating.

Not to mention, if they do file a grievance, this is a process that will be long and drawn out. And will most likely run into the next CBA agreement and potentially cause a lockout. In which case, the PA is going to take another PR hit

If you or I were the ones advising them and/or taking the risk all of these opinions of ours on the strength of the case might even mean something

And it's more likely they lose money in the long run in the decreased interest and value in the sport

I'm on the fence on baseball...if the tigers were good I'd likely still watch but it's going to be hard to find time to give a shit about the other teams with so much else going on.

Honestly, its the perfect season for fans for below average teams. Any team could be hot to start the season and ride enough of that momentum to a playoff spot in 60 games. But if you have a terrible start like the Nats last season, your season can be over pretty quickly. Overall, there's probably going to be 20-25 teams in the race til the last week or two

MLB announced that the regular season is slated to begin July 23 and 24.
The 60-game slate is expected to conclude on Sept. 27. There had been much talk of abandoning the traditional divisions and leagues this year, but that's been set aside. Instead, teams will play 40 games within their divisions and the remaining 20 games against the corresponding division in the other league. So, the Yankees will play the Red Sox, Rays, Blue Jays and Orioles 10 times apiece and then presumably face each of the NL East teams four times. It's a schedule that would seem to benefit the Central teams, especially the Twins and Indians in the AL.
