Pat Riley is going to be a super biased opinion comparing who he would choose, he even has Magic 2.0 now, or more like Oscar 3.0.

I really think this comes down to how you define GOAT. I personally go with domination on both ends and then results. I am not sure a SG can ever dominate like a Big. But no center is as much fun to watch as an explosive efficient SG.

Confirmed, Rodman not a big, his rebound is awesome, especially for his size. A lot like Wade plays like he is 6' 8" but is not.

I am talking about who you'd build a team around. Pat Riley is not "super biased" he's a fucking basketball genius. He'd pick Magic #1 because Magic Johnson is the greatest team basketball player the world will ever know.

Riley is a genius, he must be to get chicks with hair like that :D and it is all opinions.

Real question though, why is Jordan considered the GOAT? Or why do the people who think he is GOAT think that?

Rings, baby. He was dominant, he ripped his opponent's hearts out when he had the flu. He defined killer instinct.

Watch this and tell me Magic wasn't the greatest team basketball player the world will ever know. A Showtime fastbreak was basketball pr0n. We'll never see it again and I lived and died with every game. Nothing compares.

But he is a PG.

CP3 is far and away the most complete PG in the game right now and he can't do anything in the playoffs.

Now I realize that Magic is like Lebron in that he can play any position he wants to but if you want him to play like the superstar that he was, he is a PG. The best PG ever by a lot? Yes. But the NBA is about big men.

Its why a GM would pick Greg Oden over a sure thing like Kevin Durant. Its why Hakeem and Sam Bowie went ahead of MJ. Heck, I'm not so sure that if there was an all time fantasy draft that MJ would get picked ahead of Wilt and Kareem.

Doesn't matter if he was a PG or not!! He was the greatest all around player ever!! Literally could do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. Score, rebound, assist, sell popcorn in the stands, you name it!!

Magic Johnson is a great team player, but Bill Russell will always be the greatest team player.

During his first 8 seasons, he averaged 1 3pt make every 10 games. To be fair to him, he didn't need to take 3pt shots because of the quality of his teammates and the line wasn't really an issue until he got into the league.

But 95% of the world says MJ is the greatest of all time, why?

Its pretty simple. He was the first player that truly had no weaknesses, in an age where everyone got to see him play, and he was a cultural icon. Think about it. Who can compete with that?

Magic is the reason I started even playing basketball.

Magic was awesome. Averaged 11 assist and 19 points per game in his career!

Jordan was awesome too. He averaged 30 points per game in his.

Both are outstanding players and the best ever at their positions.

Overall, I give the nod to Jordan. Why? Well I guess I'm biased. Jordan had a better marketing agent. Truth, Truth.

I kind of thought marketing would play a big role in Jordan's placement. He was the first to be glorified to the point that he was.

Mine still goes:
1. Kareem
2. Russell
3. Jordan
4. Wilt
5. Magic

and greatest marketed of all time and who made the NBA as popular as it is today:
1. Jordan
2 and 3 tied Magic and Bird

Except play good defense and hit a consistant jumpshot. Other than that....you're right.

I actually dont remember him being a defensive liability at all. Not after Pippen got to the team, certainly. His lack of an outside jumpshot is a knock on MJ. Lebron James is actually closer to being the perfect player than MJ ever was. Lebron just has some serious image problems.

Magic was actually somewhat underrated as a defender. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't locking anybody down on the defensive end and was in no danger of winning DPOY, but he was a very good help defender.

As for his jumpshot, you are correct about it being inconsistent early in his career. However, it was something he used to work on and actually had a fairly consistent jumper over the 2nd half of his career.

I've always thought the Lebron/MJ comparisons were a bit off. Lebron's game favors Magic, much more than it does MJ.
