What's funny about the Jayson Stark article is that you'd expect the Giants to be looking for infield help. Maybe it's a Savvy Sabes misdirection ploy.

If you recall from that interview with Tolbert, there's an incredible paucity of middle infielders throughout baseball. No teams seem to have any depth, and some have no decent front line players either.

I don't think, in this case, it's misdirection. Quentin would be interesting...I'm guessing Nate would be involved in the trade?

I am not sure the Pads would be interested in Nate. they already have about 8 4th OF types...

They would want kids. I would think Kickham, or someone along those lines.

OK, if that's the case, what do you do with Nate? You'd have an outfield of: LF - Melkman, RF - Quentin, CF - Oxy/Shark

As you say, Nate is a fourth OF.

First, I want Quintin to play a bit before I slot him as a July pick-up. He may not react well to the NL.

Assuming he does well, and we do target him...

I think it would take MORE than just Kickham to land him, but I could see Kick as the centerpiece.

As for Nate, I like him, and I do think that in the right situation, he could put in a couple years as a decent #3. I just do not see SD as that place. They already have "that guy". I think he needs to go to other cavernous parks, or at least parks that have a tricky OF (Padres do fit this requirement).

IF they can make Nate the center-piece of a deal, that would be great. But I am not sure we can get much in a deal that centers around him.

Freddy Sanchez, when he's healthy has been about a +.013 wOBA player at 2B. Obviously, there's a huge drop off from Freddy to Brurriss/Theriot. No doubt, Arias will be tried at 2B when Pablo comes back, and that might plug that hole. Then there's 1B......

No one in baseball has + wOBA guys at all 8 spots. Once Panda is back, our only holes are SS and 1B (Arias can bat at least league average for 2b). Both our SS and 1B play + defense, and both aren't far from average wOBA. We can live with that, with our pitching.

Obviously it would be nice to have a typical mashing 1B, it's weird to have that be a hole in the lineup, but Belt batting 7th isn't the worst thing in the world. His OBP is still ok, there's always the chance he'll improve too.

Really? The Rangers would like a word with you, also St. Louis is on line one, the Yankees are on line two, the Redsox are on line three.....

I don't think that either Stamos or Huff/Belt/Pill are "not far from average wOBA." I think both positions are woefully under league average. Point take re: no team having all 8 positions contributing though.

I'd expect Belt back in Fresno about the time BurrAss gets DFAd. Let Huff/Pill platoon at 1b.

I thought of Texas, but check the stats I doubt you can say that about the Yankees or Red Sox. And if you can my point stands...with our pitching we can live with a hole or two in the lineup. Working for the Dodgers just fine. Also, you have a call from the 2010 Giants.

I meant far from average wOBA at their positions. Just looking at gp's stats.

Throw out teams spending north of $150MM on payroll -- with that kind of scratch they certainly OUGHT to be able to find league average starters at every position. That leaves, by your count, 2/26 teams (TEX, STL) who do this without spending loads of cash.

I think in general, MSG point stands -- it's rare to find 8 league average wOBA guys on the same team. What's more befuddling is that PHI and LAA don't do it even with the payroll.
