Nice post by Dr.B on his blog about where Cain's back-to-back starts rank historically. As well as an opinion about the handling of Belt - one I agree with, btw.

GREAT pull, GP. I also agree that Belt is being handled historically correct.

Of course, this conflicts with the PCDs.

Which bothers you more......?

Situation state - bases loaded, two outs, late innings ( >= 7 ), behind by a crooked number, middle of the order up, pitcher just walked or hit the previous batter.

1.) A first pitch pop-up or weak grounder on a pitch right down the middle.
2.) Watching a called third strike right down the middle on a 2-2 count.

I caught a bit of the A's game last night and Daric Barton did option #2. It's only one instance but it might reflect the difference in organizational philosophies. The Giants brass would tolerate option #1, but would find option #2 unacceptable - the A's vice-versa. I think I have to agree with the Giants on this one.

I think I have to go the other way on this. I can't STAND it when the pitcher walks or HBPs the bases loaded and the next guy up doesn't take pitch after pitch until the guy throws a strike. The pitcher is wild, he's got no room for error which makes him more wild, etc. Just take! And I don't even care if it's late innings or you are behind or whatever.

I think Option #1 bothers me more just because it happens so much more often to the Giants players. But ultimately neither option is one that I want to see.

Sorry gents, the answer was 3.) Fuck the A's.

;)

:heh:

As for the original question posed by gp. I'm not sure. I know the Giants would pick door #1, but if I had hindsight 20/20 glasses on, I'd pick #1 as well.....at least put pressure on the defense. If I didn't have hindsight 20/20 glasses on, I may opt for #2.

Both would cause a stream of expletives and remote control tossing but I'm going with #2 as more bothersome. Going down swinging. I am a hacker after all.

The worst might be a FPOM, in that situation, on a pitch that is clearly outside the zone. At the end of the day though, even with the Giants, if you fail to drive the ball on a fat pitch in a high leverage situation you'll be gone.

Jon Sanchez outdueling Verlander today, lifted after 5 innings of 1 hit no run ball with a 2-0 lead. 5 innings, typical.

Hope he gets the win, I'm happy for him.

Cal's most intriguing prospect is a FA again.

mlbRumors said:
The Mariners released infielder Eddy Martinez-Esteve, Larry Stone of the Seattle Times tweets. The 28-year-old spent seven minor league seasons with the Giants before joining the Mariners' organization in time for the 2012 campaign. Martinez-Esteve has a .295/.382/.431 line as a professional since being selected by the Giants in the second round of the 2004 draft.

I dont remember ever being over the top on him. I kept an eye on him like most of our "top" prospects, but I dont think it was ever anything more than that...

Eh....... not saying you were ever over the top, or that high on him, but it did seem to me that whenever he was mentioned on the disney boards you were in the discussion.

Ah...

That's fair. I suspect it had more to do with the fact that the thread was about the minor leagues than that it had to do with the EME category...

Beat the hell out of the constant diaper changing over there.

I actually thought EME was going to be a pretty good hitting prospect, though with little power. Vogelsong/Hensley redux?
