I love soccer flops, some of the funniest shit on TV...

However, this looks like he legitimately tripped on HIS OWN feet. I do not know what happened before or after this, though.

Going off of benefit of the doubt, though...

FLOPPER!!!!!

Look at the way he contorts his upper body and throws back his head..... totally over selling it.

Totally meaningless coincidence (I think) but anyone else catch that the flopper's name is a meaningful one to Giants fans?

He's a Torres. No clue if related to Andres, or Solomon.

:noidea:

It is soccer. My default stance is that it is a flop.

However, I think seeing what happed after this would tell more of the story. Based 100% on that GIF, I would say it is possible that it was a legit fall/non-flop. Dude was running all out while twisting his body to see the ball. His right leg got caught behind his left leg (makes sense siven the contorting of the body) and his body went flying un-expectantly. I can understand the body doing odd-things in that situation.

Again, this is taking the GIF with 0% external knowledge. Factor in the fact that it is soccer, and my stance changes because of the reputation.

You hit the back of your own foot to produce the characteristic sound of the defender clipping you, add a bit of a yell, to really draw the ref's attention. He ends up processing the sound information with the visual information of you going down in a heap, and you'll get the call without the ref ever seeing any actual contact. 100% that is a flop.

I was refereeing a high school match, and the best player on the field was flopping every time someone got near him. And of course, he would writhe on the ground in "pain." After the second time, I refused to call anything, legit or not, with this player. His coach and he were incensed at half time, and sought an explanation. I simply said that I was watching closely, but if he wanted me to believe him, the player was going to have to stay on his own damn feet for more than ten consecutive minutes in the next half. Wouldn't you know, he stayed on his feet the entire second half, and scored several really beautiful goals. Lesson learned? Of course not. Refereed a match with this team a few weeks later, and the same old stuff happened. (sigh)

Speaking of floppers, when is the NBA going to start cracking down on the flopping there? They are making soccer players look legit.

I cannot speak at all about how to fix soccer, I do not watch it. Further, I should not speak on NBA since I dont watch it AND I hate it. However, my ignorance has not stopped me from commenting in the past, so why should it now?

The flopping in the NBA will not stop until it hits these DBs in the wallet. There needs to be some kind of Czar who over-sees this and anytime he deems a player to be flopping, he is fined. Put this into an increasing scale, and you will see it disappear REAL fast. NBAers only do what is in their own best interest, so if flopping will potentially cost them 15K, 25K, 50K, etc, these guys will be fighting to keep their feet.

Bums are now two games back in the lost column. Giants are now +4 better in run differential.

They've now lost 12 of their last 14. During that stretch, they've scored only 25 runs (8 in one of those). Total free fall.

Full-on freefall. They could be in third place by the end of the week. Although with the Giants going against some good teams, I'd prefer the backs and bums to split their series. Anyway, took long enough for them to get real.

This Dodger team isn't playing "real" now either. They are not nearly as bad as the last couple weeks or nearly as good as before that.

ah.......one the enduring cliches in baseball is that no team is as good as the look when they're on a winning streak, nor as bad as they look when they're on a losing streak.

So, a couple of weeks ago, the conversation went like this:

Me: Hey babe, where shall we go for the July 4th holiday?
Her: Montreal maybe, what do you think.
Me: That sounds good, I've never been. Let me check flights.....

Me: There's a reasonable flight but it goes through Dulles. Hey! We could stay over a day in DC and see the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, Congress, etc. What do you think?
Her: The Giants are playing there, aren't they?
Me: Not sure, why?
Her: Forget it, but a nice try.

They be learnin' them women too much at that Harvard Biz School.

Cuerto goes there:

Cueto, for his part, had a more colorful idea of why he wasn't getting an invite from LaRussa. "I see that I have great numbers," he told reporters. "I thought the way I pitched this year, I'd have a chance to go to the All-Star Game. I don't know what happened. I don't know if the manager of All-Star Game is [mad] at me because I went out with one of his girlfriends."

Cuerto goes there:

There is no question why LaRusa passed on Cueto. The fact that Cueto would say ANYTHING on the subject just shows his level of character.

Dude should have been banned for life...

(OK, exaggeration, but not by much)

If I recall correctly, right after the question "Tony LaRussa, you just won the World Series, what are you going to do next?"

He said, "Well, I'm sure as shit not naming Brandon Phillips or Johnny Cueto to the All-Star team... and Disneyland or whatever."
