Football is unlike any other sport with non guaranteed contracts. Teams cut players for their lack of performance at will. Therefore players should try to get all they can when they think they have leverage. Just not sure Mincy has much leverage with the depth the Boyz now have. He is a year too late....

I get tired of these holdouts, maybe because if I walked into the bosses office and threatened to hold out, his next words will be "Meet James, he's your replacement".

You or I have easily replaceable skills. Want to replace a guy like Dez Bryant, or an Orlando Scandrick? Not so easy.

Let them sit and not get paid and incur fines and it won't happen any more. These guys have zero leverage. When a guy is in his last year it's one thing, because you don't want to lose him to free agency and sometimes you get a discount on what it would have otherwise cost you if you waited out the year, but now you have guys like Chancellor holding out because inflation knocked him down the highest paid rankings. In the long run hardball wins...no way Mincey is sitting out games and neither would have Scandrick.

Exactly, plus I don't see Mincey as a must keep player anyhow. He is replaceable, let him sit and lose money, he'll be in camp soon enough on his own.

I actually like Mincey a lot. IMO he is the starter opposite Hardy on early downs. He was incredible for us down the stretch and all of the other guys may struggle a little on run downs with a TE over them. My point is based more on the "business" side of things. If he plays well enough he'll get his.

If it were up to me I'd pretty much do what PDay mentioned above. Come into camp, play hard, be a role model and I'd give him that $500K that he should have gotten last year and maybe even more to extend.

I understand what you are saying but talent wise he's replaceable. There's a lot on D replaceable on this team. Granted the there is the cap to work with but I think we can find another Mincey in FA or the draft next year for less than he wants.

Cowboys DE Jeremy Mincey ended his holdout and reported to training camp on Sunday morning.

The Dallas Morning News said the holdout isn't officially over yet, though Mincey's appearance at camp would suggest otherwise. Mincey tried to send the Cowboys a message by skipping the first few days of camp but predictably gave in when faced with $30,000 a day fines. Mincey will earn $1.5 million this season before hitting free agency in 2016.

Mincey may end up with a new 2 year deal before long. Apparently that is the topic of discussion for today's meeting with Stephen.

The Cowboys have agreed to give DE Jeremy Mincey a raise.

It's believed to be a $500,000-or-so raise after Mincey fell 11 snaps shy of a $500,000 playing-time bonus last year. The Cowboys have also waived Mincey's fines for not reporting to training camp on time. Mincey will likely open the season as Dallas' starting defensive end opposite Demarcus Lawrence before settling into a rotational role when Greg Hardy's suspension ends.

Was PDAY in on the contract talks?

This sounds like a good result for the Cowboys, and for Mincey. This is good business from the Cowboys organization, IMO. They come off looking loyal and reasonable. I understand these type of things can be a slippery slope, and you never know who may show up with their hand out next time, but I really like the way Dallas has handled the contract situations this off season.

not gonna lie...I heard the thought on local radio sports last week. Seemed pretty sound in thought after the Scandrick love

Thats one reason I'd like to move to Dallas. In about 13 years the wife and I plan on moving after we both retire. She wants Georgia I want Dallas. Odds are well be in Georgia.

Wonder if just giving him another million would make him happy, if the missed $500k may be annoying him. So give that to him with interest.

BOOM, called it. The $500k he missed out on was pissing him off. So they gave it to him, and here he is. :)

It appears it sometimes pays to harbor resentment

haha, I guess so. I'd be pissed if I were him too. He played in every game. If we hadn't run the ball so much he would have easily cleared the number of snaps needed. :pound:
