Here's the thing with Frost, I highly doubt he is locked into the spread offense. If he wants to be a HC, he should learn a variety of styles and if he's a good coach, he can take Riley's playbook and teach it to the kids and call plays. plus he could throw in his own touches to keep the offense his own.

I'm not saying Frost will come, I'm just saying it's not impossible.

please excuse me if I'm wrong here, but is there one OC in the country that has learned a multitude of styles and implemented it effectively?

As far as i know, OCs are hired in to agreeable rosters/roles/head coaches to implement their system that fits. now obviously there are minor adjustments due to each squad's players BUT….

when is the last time an option OC was hired to implement a west coast offense? a spread coach to run a pro offense? a spread coach to run a power run game?

I don't mean to insult you but that sounds like a really dumb statement to me

Yes I'm glad Bo is gone.

Why does that make it that I automatically like the new hire?

I've never said 'I'll take anybody but Bo' and I don't recall anybody else saying that either.

This guy's a proven loser.

Boy I'll say he is. Maybe Eichorst hates Nebraska fans more than Bo did.

The last option QB to run the WC that I remember was at Nebraska in Jamal Lord.

to rephrase my point a bit….If frost is going to be hired as a HC its because that AD likes the spread style he has going and wants him to run it at that school. No AD is going to hire frost because he wants him to run a power run scheme…its dumb to think that. If i were Frost i would focus on creating the best spread offense that ever existed, not learning other styles

I am more than slightly pessimistic about this hire. A few things I read about Riley's OSU teams include: antiquated and slow pace offense, he is very loyal to his staff, poor clock management, wavering Beaver fan support for him. Add all this with his recent teams W/L records and I am still not even on the fence about Riley. Of course I will support him and the Huskers but I hate to see a repeat of the Billy C. years. I hope for the best but will expect the worse - the definition of Bogatory!

Nebraska only ran 8 more plays on offense than Ore. St. did this year. It was his pass happy approach that worries me. I thought we were going to get a corch to smash the ball, not sling it like a hot tator.

he did sling it a ton this year, but throughout his oregon St. career its been 1.3/1 pass/run ratio….thats not bad at all really

Mike Riley did not want to leave Oregon State when he was winning, but once he started losing he decides to get the heck out of Corvalis.

This strikes me as odd.

If he thought he had it rolling in 2012 and did now want to leave, why leave now?

My guess, he regrets not taking the big money that was offered to him, and he decided this time he would and cash in the chips because he is only going to get worse in Corvalis. He saw the writing was on the wall.

This contract had better not be a lot and there had better not be a big buyout.

If it is true, that Eichorst dissed Tressel, he is a fool.

My guess is he got tired of trying to compete with outdated facilities and no budget to hire coaches.

my point was, how do you know that is the ultimate offense Frost wants to run? Yea, he's been learning at Oregon, but that's because they gave him a WR job and then he got promoted to OC. but is he on record somewhere saying that the offense he is running is exactly what he wants to be doing?

I love how Nebraska is saying this is the ONLY coach they wanted and that the press can do a freedom of Information request to get emails. Just means that there aren't any emails. Everything was done by methods that the Mafia has used. Meetings that are voice only and no wiretaps.

I love how Riley said this came out of the blue. He had no idea.

So, putting two and two together, Nebraska was waiting to ensure that Riley went 5-7, losing to Oregon(again) and if it wasn't a lucky win over Arizona State, Oregon State would have lost their last 7 games, but ended up 1-6. Thank god the PAC 12 has Colorado, otherwise OSU could have ZERO wins in the PAC 12.

After this excellent coaching impression, Nebraska/Eichorst/Perlman just knew that a 9-3 Bo Pelini would not get Nebraska over the hump, but a 5-7 Mike Riley is going to. Not buying it.

Proved he could win at a loser of a program.

56% since 2002 at a school that was 21% in the 30 years leading up to that.
-------
Of the three supposed finalists, they all were not nice guys as BB has a somewhat contentious relationship with the media. So, IMO, the nice guy call is a bunch of BS. None of the three coaches (if I did my math right) has as high of a winning percentage as Bo did. ALL are under 70%. None of the three coaches had (from what I read) playbooks as convoluted as Bo's. So, what was the common denominator? All three coaches did have something that Bo lacked (and pretty much sealed his fate). All 3 coaches have the ability to take lesser "starred" talent and skill them up to play at a much higher level.

I'm willing to give Riley the chance he needs. He's coming from a school that had about 1/2 the Athletic budget as Nebraska. He's going to a school with a great gameday environment and a school with great facilities.

Finally, NO one knows what kind of offense or defense he'll run here. Mainly, because he hasn't had this kind of talent to work with. A lot will depend on whom he hires as his assistants, but till the dust settles, all the supposed negatives being said are moot.

If Frost is announced OC, I'm in. If Eichorst is really a lawyer, he would see this coming.

i see your point, but the only two offenses Frost has ever known was Nebraska's option and oregon's spread…doesn't really equate himself to Riley's pro

i would be ecstatic if Riley hired frost and told him to run the spread and Riley would just ensure the guys were well handled….it just seems extremely unlikely, and it seems even more unlikely that frost will ever coach anything aside from a spread or an option

I jest looked at this years results between the two teams and was like, awwww shit.

On the Brightside, the assistant coaches shouldn't have to worry about getting spat on while getting an ass chewing on the way by.

LoL but not at Ron Brown. Bo set the bar, now Riley has some work to do not only to hit that mark, but beat it.

No. Bo wasn't gonna work out. It didn't appear he was ever gonna let the program come between he and his friends.

Just hope this huge gamble of a hire pays off.

Yes, I know that. This is not what I or most expected. kind of on the boring side.

Won't say I am in love with it. I would much rather have a big name. But I am on board and hopeful.

Hopeful that in three years I will be in love
