How about Stanley Morgan?

Receptions 743
TDs 74
Yards 10,843
0 SB Rings (Played on lousy Patriot teams)
Stats back in those days are much more meaningful IMO.
much harder to get them.

Stanley Morgan was definitely one of the elites in that time.

Perhaps no ring hampers it.

Unfortunately, the NFL and the numbers are so relative. It is unfortunate cause that is how mythology is created. Is mythology good? I guess so to an extent.

I suppose the only way we can compare anything is based on how much did a particular player dominate against his peers given the rules or circumstances of that time.

& this is what is unfortunate nowadays.
Journeymen from now have better stats than the greats from yesteryear. Dont mean they are better.

One thing that's forgotten is that in the beginning through the 1980's there was no "media".
Every newspaper and television network and some local stations had people at games and the main source of information of games not covered by that news source was AP and UPI.

The early Super Bowls got 10-15 seconds of coverage by Walter Cronkite (CBS) or Chet Huntley and David Brinkley (NBC) the day after it was played.

An odd smelling fart in a locker room tomorrow will get more coverage than a 10 catch, 200 yard, 5 TD game in 1958.
