I have a feeling the Heat are willing to go at least 2 years. But also get the feeling he is wanting something beyond to 2+ years. he just can't seem to accept that the end is near

It depends on your meaning of long term deal. He's turning 35 in January. I would be ok with a 3 year deal but would prefer a 2 year deal but no way should he get nor expect a 4 or 5 year deal at his age.

I did mean 4-5.
I'm good with 1 year 20+, but if it's multiple years (3 with team option on 4th) it shouldn't average out to more then 15-16/year.

3 years is the max for me if I'm the Heat. He's turning 35 in January. Giving him a 4 or 5 year deal seems crazy to me

I think if the Heat can find a way to pay Wade less by spreading it over multiple years it would benefit them in the long run bc the salary cap is only going to keep rising. You get a good veteran player who is still as good as a lot of the guys in the NBA barring any major injuries for a cheap deal moving forward.

A rather weak summer league roster compared to last summer league - save for the guys coming back from last season. still early, of course. And they can develop into good options to reach for if and when necessary

Wade is really putting us in a bad position.

I agree with Ira for the most part. However, he is wrong that Belichick's system works considering he went 11-5 the year Brady tore his ACL, but that's a whole different discussion.

Heat are in a weird place right now. I don't want to overpay for average players but we also can't be competitive getting plan D and E guys. It would be nice if the NBA had contracts structure like the NFL. I'm sure Bosh feels differently because he'd be screwed right now.

Any reason why they think that is what Pat wants?

I didn't hear what they said, but Whiteside is going to get a max deal for an immature person. He doesn't fit the Riley mold as a player, neither did Beasley (who Pat had to be basically forced to draft).

If only we had drafted Russell Westbrook. Albeit, everyone had Beasley as the consensus no. 2 pick. No one saw him as a bust at the time. If only we could have a do over. Westbrook would've been number 1 in that draft hands down. Kevin Love would probably be 2nd.

Whiteside will only get the lowest level max for the next few seasons, about 10M less than what Durant will make. If I knew Whiteside would keep up the same level of play after the max deal, he'd definitely be worth it, IMO.

Can NBA contracts be restructured like in the NFL? I forget --- seems like a rarity so maybe its not possible. Because I was thinking, if the Heat really do want Hassan or even Wade back, just bow down to the demands of the two little bitches to end all of this -- and then restructure at a later date for a more reasonable contract - Give them what they want now, and hope to make a case in your favor when the season gets going to restructure to more team-friendly parameters.

What $/year will 6'6" SG Allen Crabbe get? Around least 10M. He's one of those sleeper FA's that everyone is now getting wise to: 39% 3PT, 50% 2PT, 86% FT with good defense. The dude's only 24 and could be a great piece to build around. Maybe he's the type of breakout star that might take a short deal like Lance Stephenson did in hopes of getting a much better $/yr deal sooner.
