Says OKC had "No strategy for me being here"

"Having said that, I would like to point out that Carmelo Anthony went minus-19 in 26 minutes of burn, in a game his team lost by five points. There’s a damn stat! It was a nightmarish playoff series at the end of an awful season for Melo. He finished the six game series with a minus-14.5 net rating, with ghastly 38/21/73 shooting splits. The Thunder were outscored by 58 points during his 194 minutes on the court, and outscored the Jazz by 32 points in the 94 minutes he sat. The 58-point deficit is the largest on-court deficit for any Thunder player in the series; hilariously, the 32-point cushion is also the largest off-court margin for any Thunder player. As true as it is that Russ should not take 43 shots in a playoff game, it is at least as true that Carmelo Anthony should not play 26 minutes in one. "

No one wants that contract. Except maybe the Nets. But he has a No-Trade Clause. So a buy out seems the most likely. No way Paul George comes back to play with him. And in Melos defense, he really did not look comfortable in the way the team used him. He believes he has "A Lot left in the tank, and so much to give to the game of basketball" paraphrasing. It must be a tiny tank. My guess is a buy out, and a sweetheart deal on a winning team......off the bench. Cause of course he will come to his senses.

No bench role, huh?

How about one where he eats popcorn and watches from the front row? That might be more appropriate.

Melo's an old school player. He makes his living off the midrange game in a day where defenses literally give up layups to prevent 3 point shots.

How someone will pay Carmelo Anthony 24 million while Dwayne Wade gets 2 is beyond me.

No one is trading for him, so that's out.

He'd likely lose money, so that's out.

As @tlance pointed out in another thread, he has always taken the money...so that's in, minus the Rocky 4 comeback.

I think he gets bought out. Have always thought him to be a good player but his attitude here and in other instances make him among the most polarizing people in basketball.

Don't think someone will pay that? Seen what the Blazers are paying a guy named Meyers Leonard? Don't challenge Neil Olshey.

You didn't list all the options. Specifically the most likely option.

Will be told to ride pine until he provides more value. Refuses and gets paid 24 million a year to play NBA2K.

He's not taking a buyout unless it is close to being made whole.

Well it has to be a team that is both willing to pay that and a team that Melo is willing to play for.

Melo still seems to think he's a guy that deserves to get paid $25m a year and that teams are lining up to sign him.

Yeah... not quite.

No team that Melo is on will ever be a serious contender.

Just buy him out, or barring any kind of buyout agreement, till him to kick rocks by enjoying his salary from home.

Maybe when he was still with the Nuggets he could have been on a title contender team. But those days are LONG since gone.

Yep. He turned into a volume shooter who bogs down any offense that runs through him while being a liability on defense.
