I am glad a few of you Lions fans chimed in on this thread @broncosmitty; @Mebert ; @Old Lion !

Did any of you see that performance this week from Matt? I mean it look like Staff when ever they zoomed in on the telecast. It did say No 9 with Stafford on the back, but that was in no way the same guy we LA Rams fans saw in Weeks 1, 2 & 3!

Can you explain to us Rams fan on what we saw? Have you seen it before? I mean that was totally a different dude out there!

What the hell was that!

Did we get fleeced?
Probably just a case of other teams adapting. For Staffords entire career teams could just drop 8 into coverage because the Lions can not and will not run it. Some combinations of teams had to worry about a complete offense, and McVay could finally use his complete book. Now there is some tape on it. I would guess the rest of the season is going to be better than last week, but not as good as the first 3. Still some elite play though.

Week 1
Stafford with the Rams goes 20-26 for 321 YDS & 3 TD's as the LA Rams defeat the Bears 34-14 in front of the first ever packed SoFi Stadium and starts the season 1-0!

Meanwhile Goff with Detroit.....
Goes 38-57, 338 YDS, 3 TD, 1 INT as the Detroit Lions outscore the 49ers 21-3 in the final Quarter +4 min to lose by 9, and starts out the season 0-1.

Week 2
Stafford with the Rams goes 12 plays &, 55 yards in the closing minutes of the 4th quarter at Indy for his first 4th quarter comeback in horns, and the Rams move to 2-0 on the season.

Meanwhile Goff with Detroit.....
Starts out red hot on Monday Night Football besting Arron Rodgers & the Packers in the first half with near perfection and a 3 point lead. Then it's starts to rain in the second half, and Goff does Goff things as Goff with Detroit gets shut out with a couple of turnover while Rodger & the Pack score 21 unanswered points as the Lions move to 0-2 on the season.

Week 3
Stafford with the Rams starts out shaky going 1 of 6 while facing the World Champion Bucs & Terrific Tom at SoFi, but he settles down,, and ends up going 27-38, 343 YDS, 4 TD's as the Rams take the W and move to 3-0 on the season.

Meanwhile Goff with Detroit.....
Struggles at home hosting the Ravens in a defensive game, but still goes 22-30 for 217 YDS in an effort which appeared to be his first 4th quarter comeback with his Lions outscoring the Ravens 17-3 in the final Quarter +5 min to go up by 1 save the final play where Justin Turner and the benefit of a no call delay of game kicks an NFL record breaking 66 yard Field Goal as the Lions move to 0-3 on the season.

Week 4
Stafford with the Rams has his worse start in Horns to date! (And could it get much worse? Well yeah, but he was just plain bad!) And even though McVay gives him his vote of confidence in the post game presser, he wont continue to do so if Matt has more games like this one. In what should have been a DeSean Jackson TD, if Matt didn't grossly under throw him becomes Matt's first INT of the afternoon. On a later drive on what should have been a Cooper Kupp TD, Matt misses badly to the right of the route. On another drive, Matt gets bailed out after taking a hand to the top of his helmet resulting in a roughing the passer penalty, that should have been yet another INT.

Not sure what was going on, and with only a 1 point half time deficit, one might think they would straighten the ship with the way the running game was clicking, instead the Defense does a Houdini & disappears, and the Rams get embarrassed at SoFi giving away sole control of the NFC West!

Next up...

The 3-1 Rams, on a short week & National stage, face the 2-2 Seahags at Lumen Field for Thursday Night Football. The Rams can move back into first place next week with a win in Seattle (With a little help from the hated ones as the 9ers travel to Zona) Or they can find themselves as much as 2 games out by the end of Week 5. Stay Tuned!

Meanwhile Goff with Detroit.....
.... continues to do Goff things on the road in Chicago, and losses to a rookie QB who threw for a total of 67 yards the week prior and making his 2nd career start ever. Down 7 points, Goff moves his team 63 yards to first and goal to the Bears 8 and losses the shotgun exchange. Sure it looked like it was on the Center as Goff was trying to set up blocker as the ball gets snapped but who knows? Now down 14 points, Goff moves his team 70 yards to first and goal again to the Bears 5 and Goff goes 0 for 2 and scrambles for 2 yards, but still turns the ball over once again, this time on downs and an incomplete pass. Still in the 1st half, the defense hold up forces a 3 and out and Goff moves his team 35 yards to first and goal again to the Bears 8, and this time at the 3 on 3rd down, fumbles the ball and the Bears recover and the Bears go into the half up 14. Now down 21 -0 half way through the 3rd, Goff moves his team to first and goal to the Bears 8 and finally throws for the TD. Now down 24-7 to end the 3rd, Goff moves his team 44 yars to the Bears 25 and throw his 2nd TD, so Lions down by 10 with plenty of time. The Lions defense holds for a 3 and out and with 7 and a half minutes. So you guessed it, Goff moves his team 75 yards to the Bears 8, but he needed to get to the Bears 7 as it was 3rd down, and he throws incomplete on 4th down. That was pretty much the game and the Lions move to 0-4 on the season.

Next up...

The 0-4 Lions travel to face the 1-3 Vikings, and it wont be pretty. The Vikes three losses are by a combined total of 11 points.....

Nah he does that from time to time. Just flakes out. He is one of the most overall talented QBs in the league. If he is out of sync watch out. He throws so hard that if he is off bad things happen more than they do for other QBs. Then he tries too hard to adjust and throws balls in the dirt.

You want these games out of the way here and there and then hope he gets hot come playoff time.
Good Grief!

Considering his Lions record vs teams who eventually have a winning record by seasons end (8-67), his post season record (winless) and what the LA Rams gave up to get this cat, I have legitimate concerns.

He’s not Aaron Rodgers.

He’s a lot better than Goff, as we all know. But he does dumb shit sometimes. And has never been great with out routes. He telegraphs em and gets picked because of it.

You’re also going to hate his sidearm and underhand passes at some point. I sure did.

But he’s very talented and gives everything he has. He’s tough and deep down is a football player more than just a QB. That’s what I grew to like about him the most.

I do believe he is good enough to win SB. But he’s also going to have a few WTF!?! moments a month. Which is a lot less than used to have back in the day.

You prolly gave up more than he’s worth tbh. But you got rid of Goff. Which I completely understand the need to do now. JTFC he holds on to the ball too long.

IDK, he was just throwing the ball like he was another dude. The passes were just piss poor yesterday and the last three weeks save the first half dozen or so vs the Bucs he was at an elite level.

Just don't see how a dude throwing the rock like that turns into a dude who throw like he was having a stroke all game compared to the way he has been throwing it the first 3 weeks. John Wolford would have gave the Rams a better chance at winning that game yesterday, instead we get blown out. (And everyone here knows I'm am not a Wolford fan!)

Don’t hold the wins and losses against him too much.

A couple years ago he started off the season at an MVP caliber pace. (In line for 5000 yards and like 40 TDs.). We were 3-4-1 after 8 games when he got hurt. Went 0-8 without him the rest of the season.

Detroit would prolly be 2-2 with him right now. Even though he mightve broke the hands of all these no name receivers were running out there.

Great insightful post bronc!

Tell some truths to some of these Rams/Stafford honks!

We didn't exactly get hosed, but this isn't terrific Tom at age 33 either!

Brightside: I have never felt he was done improving.

His career has been a steady uptick the entire time. And now that he’s out of Detroit, I have zero concerns he will lose his love to play and more importantly his love to play thru pain.

We’ve seen it happen to too many of our best players. “Lionized” is the term. Distinctly remember the moment I knew Calvin was done. You could actually see what was left of his passion leave his body during a game against Chicago. Hell, Jaime Collins recently just stopped showing up for practice.

I could see Staff playing until he’s 40 if his back holds up.

And the play before was a delay of game that wasn’t called.

Should have been a 71 yard FG attempt. Lol

I’m rooting for my Lions and your Rams to lose every week anyway. Was ready for the next draft before this season even started.
I am here for you Schmitty

Same goes with Perkins. Perkins is a completely different style of quarterback and one the Cards wouldn’t have been much prepared for at all.

which is why I hated the trade in the first place.

it was alot to give up for a guy with that track record. And you just can't put it all on the rest of the team around him. How many times have we seen QB's elevate the play of their teammates around them ( ala Brady, Manning, Montana, etc ). Stafford just does not do that.

He had Megatron and other great WR's all those years and still had that record against winning teams and an 0-fer in the playoffs.

Well, right now, the Rams have a similar RB stable that the Lions had all those years and a suspect defense that every team will be taking note of. To expect a different result this year vs last year despite the QB change is just a fantasy dream right now.

Until the defense vastly improves and McVay starts to lean more on the run game vs being so pass happy, we can expect similar results for the rest of the season.

Let's not forget, the Seahawks always play us tough and usually end up in a season split, Shanny still has McVay's number and may have a new weapon himself with Lance that the Rams will have to contend with ( that will be 3 mobile QB's the Rams face every year while they still face a pocket passer that isn't a dual threat ). Now, the Cards are legit and just took the Rams lunch money and shoved them in a locker.

The Rams could easily be looking at a 1-5 division record this season.

I have a tendency to lean toward what you are stating ALR as what is really happening but if you need further ammo here is an article that sort of indirectly provides insights into the limited and myopic approach McVay often takes to game plan development. First it was DeSean Jackson that was quiet and McVay wanted to get involved in the Offense. Now it is Robert Woods. Next it'll be Atwell, Johnny Mundt, or Buddy Howell.

Does genius boy not have a better scope of the big picture to getting everyone involved on gameday or is this just another "I-got-to-get-better bullshit ploy to provide license to do nothing like McVay has always done?

How can he be considered a "genius" and not know how to use all the weapons the team has?

I mean, if that is the case, why in the hell did they draft Atwell? If McVay can't figure out how to use Woods week in and week out, how in the hell is he supposed to get Atwell on the field?

I just don't understand this team at all. They draft Atwell and Jones, and then don't use them at all. If McVay hasn't noticed, this team needs a legit LBer on the field. And how can you not get Atwell on the field for some screen plays and jet sweeps and utilize the speed they drafted him for? it is so freaking puzzling to me:mad2:

If we could get you and SJ in the FO, this crap show we see year in and year out would disappear, as would the highly questionable drafting.

Yea ALR, you could include Garrett in that list of eff-ups and then when you have the 10th best rated guard ON YOUR PS and ya cut him when you don't have to, then you are no genius but a complete eff-up and that whole scenario is beginning to play-out yet again this year. Good grief, if this dumbass doesn't understand how this year's roster rules work, then there isn't much credibility to McVay's league wide rep of being a genius.

I agree with Vita's skepticism on Stafford and all that we gave-up to bring him in. Vita's concern is legit and although our O-line is keeping Stafford upright, a back injury could end this fantasy sooner rather than later. I also agree that Wolford or even Perkins may be a better fit in the long-term but that opinion is also subjective at this point.

I will say, even though the frustration is there for alot of the same BS we've seen for the past decade, it is still better than the Fisher days.

At least McSnead has been successful, unlike Fisher/Snead.

And they have drafted well finding later round gems, but I just don't understand not playing them because of McVay's aversion to using rookies ( except for Akers ).

he barely used Jefferson last year, and Jefferson is a great route runner and has some speed which the team sorely needed last season.

Lol. You have legit concerns over a mega talented QB over 1 loss where the team hadn’t beat us in the last 8 tries? That’s not the AZ Cards we’ve been beating down the past 4-5 years man and that was their statement game. Ours was last week.

It’s week 4

I think the Rams have done a great job on the FO since McVay came to LA. They won’t be perfect and you have to remember the dude is in his 30s. The only place that’s been highly questionable in the FO is them drafting in the first 2 rounds. Lol. But Cam was a 2nd rounder.

Jalen trade was awesome. Stafford trade will be good as well. It’s still very early in the year

At least this last loss wasn’t from Goff turning it over 4 times against the Dolphins. Those are games we can’t lose. This game AZ was simply tired of losing to the Rams and they are talented at QB and WR.

Week 5
Stafford continues with the Rams in Seattle in the first half at Luman Field on Thursday Night Football as the Rams score a measly 3 points as the Rams drives go Punt, Punt, INT, FG, Punt & Kneel down. The defense did their part holding the Seahags to just a TD and getting an INT of their own vs the great Hags QB Wilson who may be on his way to a Golden Jacket when it's all said and done. The Rams trail by 4 points and for the second game in row, they trail at the half. Stafford looked bad, with under throws, and had a pass that worked well in his favor, if defensed well, would have been yet another under thrown INT but the drive lead to the FG.

Then the 2nd half started & the Rams Veteran QB's heated up! Still shakey a bit, and now with a dislocated digit on his throwing hand, leads his team to 3 TD out of the first 4 drives, and pretty damned good drives of 96, 82, and 73 yards. Meanwhile the Rams defense plays well enough as Wilson & company heats up a bit too, but Moore's defense forces drives to start the 2nd half of Punt, TD, FG & INT. And that's all that was needed as the Rams tack on another FG to put the game out of reach, and win 26-17 on the road.

Next up...

The 4-1 Rams, on a long week travel to New York City as huge 10 point favorites, to face the 1-4 Giants at MetLife Stadium on a Sunday morning. The Rams again can move back into first place in the Division with a win in NY this week. (With a little help from their original home town as Redbirds travel to face the Brownies) Or once again, they can find themselves down as much as 2 games by the end of Week 6. Stay Tuned!

Meanwhile Goff with Detroit.....
.... likely has his worst outing as a Lion, and yet by games end found himself with a 2nd shot this season at posting a 4th quarter comeback, however once again, to no avail. This time as hard as it is to believe, this could be a worse case scenario of a miss for Goff, and imagine that when his first 4th quarter come was lost on an NFL record breaking 56 yard FG! But I'm ahead of myself a bit, but that scenario had to be stated first and foremost!

The coaching in Detroit clearly continues to lose faith in Goff as their starting QB, indicative of them using him in the shotgun and dinking and dunking his way to a FG for a 3-0 lead over the 1-3 Vikings. The Lions defense holds and Goff is back in the shotgun, save one passing down, moves his team in scoring position, before Goff does more Goff things on the road in Minny. On 1st and 10 from the Vikes 23, Goff gets sacked, now on 2nd and 18 Goff is sacked again, but this time its a patent Goff sack strip, which leads to a Vikings FG, Vikings 6; Detroit 3. With what seems like little trust in their QB, on the next drive, the Lions punt in 5 plays throwing for one first down and one other pass on 3rd and long and short of the 1st down. The Lions defense on the next drive, gassed a bit and on their heels, gives up the TD and it looks like it's starting to slip away. Vikings 13; Detroit 3. But it's garbage time, end of the half, two minute drill, & prevent defense and Goff moves his team on 7 passes on 9 downs for 41 yards and a FG, Vikings 13; Detroit 6 to end the half.

To start the 2nd half the Lions defense is fired up and gets a 3 and out! But that doesn't stop Goff from doing Goff things.... The Lions, committed to the run, throw their 2nd pass of the half after moving the ball into scoring position and Goff does more Goff things throwing an INT on 2nd down at the Minny 15, but the Lions defense holds to a 3 and out. Now totally miffed with Goff, they commit to the run except on 3rd down, and Goff fails to convert and punt themselves and it's still Vikings 13; Detroit 6,

The Lions find themselves with good field position, and the defense steps up and gets an INT, but more dink and dunk, punts by both sides and the game is slipping away from the Lions ..... Vikings 13; Detroit 6. Finally with decent Field position, the Lions find themselves in another scoring opportunity at last, and make a FG to make it Vikings 13; Detroit 9. The Detroit defense steps up and gets a 3 down fumble and everyone in Minny is holding their faces! Goff takes over and in 3 plays goes 20 yards for the go ahead TD for a Detroit 17-16 lead with just 1:19 seconds left in the game, and things look good for the City of Detroit, but it's too much time and Kirk Cousins. Kirk moves his team 46 yards in 5 plays into Field Goal position, and his kicker gives him a 54 yard, as time runs out game winning Field Goal!

Next up...

The 0-5 Lions are at home to face the 3-2 Bengals, this could be the week, as this Lions are only a -3.5 under dog at home. They have been hanging tough but just haven't learned to close out games, that said, it's still an up hill battles and expect Cinci to be ready and come to play.
