I think he fits in Dallas after last year. He just doesn't deserve much more than the minimum. Counting on him becomes a mistake. He's a bonus, like last year...if things work out
Would love to have him back. Also eliminates a need in the draft so we can focus on other positions.
I think the need is still kind of there for two reasons. First off whatever McClain gets if we sign him will likely be a one year or maybe two year deal, so even if we sign him he could be a short term signing. Second, we all know the injury history with Lee and McClain seems to be in the same boat, so having aother LB around would be a very good idea for the long haul.
But, I totally agree with you that it goes from an immediate big need that we hav to address to more of a long term thing. This would be great for us because not being forced to take a LB unless the right guy was there would become a luxury on draft day.
To expand a little on this. I don't know anyone here that saw McClain's football instincts come into play quicker than I did after he got into expectable shape, but he still half hearted it last year. Dallas invested 2M for Brinkley and McClain is one missed doctors appointment from sitting 4 games. McClain has a decision, play football for 750/800K on a one year deal or not. That remains all he deserves till he shows himself in a better light. I think last year wasn't enough to justify the investmentI think he fits in Dallas after last year. I'm probably in the minority but I think McClain's contract will be $2M+, (based on a 16 game season). There won't be much up-front or guaranteed and much of the money will be roster bonus or snap count related. To put it in perspective the Rams signed Akeem Ayers for $3M to compete for the SLB role with Dunbar. The SLB plays less than 40% of snaps in the Rams system.

Sorry, i'm in a different time zone to most of you. I didn't read today's news before I came here. I don't sign in here or look for NFL news every day. I read through the thread and commented as I saw the topic at hand. I knew he was talking with the Patriots but I was hopeful he'd re-sign with the Cowboys. $3M + incentives looks a little bit high but it'll depend on the details.

The only vacation i've got is an involuntary '3 month vacation' from posting on the Rams board.Oh so no vacation, you were on holiday? HAHA, no problem just giving you a ration of shit
