If they held the line on Murray's deal, they should sure as heck hold the line on McClain's. I'd like him back, but not for crazy money. I know bringing him back would allow Rod to slide Lee to WLB, but it's not the end of the world if he can't. Lee could stay in the middle with Hitchens at the Will. There are also a couple of dynamite MLB's that should be there in the 2nd round, Perryman out of Miami and Kendricks out of UCLA. Both guys will knock the piss out of you, and are great tacklers. Kendricks older brother plays for Philly, and has developed into an outstanding LB for them

There going this route due to the number of overpaid contracts and redo's from past years. No were not exactly in cap hell but we are close enough to touch that celling. It will probably take to more years operating in this manner before we are clear to operate normally.

As for McClain he played good enough to earn a respectable offer, but he's still an injury and retirement risk. I want him back in Dallas, but not at a cap busting deal. With this team cap situation that means he gets low balled. If another team offers a better deal let him walk with no hate on the man.
Good post.........so true

According to Mike Fisher on 105.3 the Fan. This is not just about money He Reports that the Coaching staff is not very happy with McClain's effort throughout the week in practice. Basically saying that the training staff says McClain is ready to go and McClain saying he is not quite right etc. etc. etc. creating frustration for the staff trying to put together a game plan. And is Part of the Reason the Cowboys are not offering much in the contract negotiations. Also that McClain was not happy with the money he was paid last year at all. Fisher also reported that no other teams are sniffing around McClain so far.

Looks like the Boys will need to Draft a MLB and move on from McClain. Sad Really all that talent just being thrown away. SMH

Sounds like his heart is not 100% into the game. Hence why he's a retirement risk.

If these things are all true, I say let him walk. I like what he did for this defense, but you can't have guys like that around. Not worth the headache.

There are some outstanding MLB prospects this year, if McClain doesn't wanna play, show him the door

I'm sure we can find an adequate replacement in the draft it's just a shame we have to burn a pick on this now.

Then the man is not worth the effort to sign.

His fault. No one to blame other than himself.
We'll see if any other team steps up. At this point he may have pouted himself out of the NFL.

While I agree with a lot of what has been said here, we really don't know how true it is. This is based on a what a talk show host is reporting? Do we even know if any of it is anything other than rumor or his opinion?

IRVING, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) – The acquisition of Rolando McClain was never going to be risk-free — even though it came cheaply — because of his talent level.

The more the Cowboys put him on the field in 2014, the better he was. And the better he was, the more reliant on him they were. And the more reliant on him they were … the more difficult it sometimes became inside of Valley Ranch because of his enigmatic personal style.

Now McClain is a free agent, and if this was about talent alone (he was the Cowboys’ best defender for most of last season, finishing second on the team in tackles with 108, with a sack, nine tackles for loss, five quarterback pressures, five pass deflections, a forced fumble and two interceptions), this would be a high-anxiety negotiation for high dollars.

But it is neither, the club instead preparing to move along from McClain while signing former Vikings first-team middle linebacker Jasper Brinkley and also anticipating full health from Sean Lee.

In addition to the usual contractual issues — money and years — this is about trust and reliability. Sources tell me the Cowboys staff felt hamstrung by McClain’s occasional availability, by having to wonder if his body and his psyche were always willing.

If the Cowboys stand firm on not wanting to overpay McClain (or on paying him at all), they will likely be a less talented team for it. But trust is monumental here. And Cowboys fans are left having to choose trust when it comes to the decision overseen here by the likes of Jason Garrett, Will McClay and Rod Marinelli.

“I was on a bad path,” McClain said during the season, referring back to previously erratic moments in his career in Oakland and Baltimore. “I didn’t deserve to play football, so to (speak). I wasn’t all the way there in the game.’’

Rolando McClain’s “path’’ continues … quite possibly away from Dallas.

The part about the Money was on the radio today

Not saying its gospel but Fisher breaks a lot of Cowboy news before others

Still looks like nothing but hearsay to me. We all saw the issues with McClain. I'm not sure I need an talking head to illuminate me. Guy was fantastic when he did play. He didn't beat his girlfriend or anything like that. Remember the talk of him coming in and being a leader on this defense? He was hurt all the time and seemed to lose focus from time to time. Based on his history that means reasonable dollars only. I still think there is a chance he is back and none of the guys we signed are good enough to impact whether or not he comes back...it comes down to how much he wants.

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones confirms the team is trying to re-sign free agent ILB Rolando McClain.

Jones' comments echo those made by coach Jason Garrett. ESPN Dallas recently guessed that McClain would be allowed to walk, due in part to off-field issues that continue to harass the 25-year-old linebacker. McClain is coming off a renaissance, but concussion-marred, 2014, and is reportedly facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He's made zero visits in free agency.

I really don't know what you guys think at this point after some of the comments here, but I want McClain back and I would be incredibly excited to see what our defense could do with him and maybe a couple draft picks that contribute too. I'll repeat what I said right after the season and ever since. Lee, McClain and Hitchens would be one of the best 4-3 LB combos in the league. Plus now you throw in Hardy. And Lawrence and Crawford with another year of experience. All of our DBs just had their jobs made a lot easier. Throw in a CB and true FS in the draft and the defense could be very good.

Of course we would have the possible health issues with Lee and McClain, but who knows what could happen there...I'm not assuming an injury until it happens...

I want him back but not with a cap crippling contract. I think this is the majority of our thoughts. McClain arguably was our best defender for most of the year but his health and heart have to worry you a little.

I don't see anyway he gets a cap crippling contract from the Cowboys.

Neither do I, but that seams to be the pothole at the moment. He want more than any team is/has offered. Time is in Dallas' favor.

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones confirms Sean Lee will be moving to weak-side linebacker in 2015.

Asked if the position change was more about Lee's skill-set or reducing injury risk, Jones replied "both." Lee has spent his entire career in the middle, and been a dynamo when healthy. The problem, of course, is that he's rarely healthy, missing 31 games over the past three years. Lee would drop back into coverage more as the "will," and face off less with bruising defensive linemen.
