Let Caldwell and Xanders run it, or hire an outside consultant. Anybody but Mayhew.

This shit isn't even funny anymore.

Didn't something like that happen in '08 with Marinelli or was it just FA's?

Good question. I really don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised. I remember Marinelli was notorious for refusing to play the young guys and rookies.

Since you are a Dolphins fan now, you should probably change your current signature statement to:

Under Stephen Ross's ownership, the Dolphins have gone 43-53, and have never been over .500, with 0 playoff appearances and 0 division titles in his 6 years leading the franchise.

Here's the difference: Miami is trying to change that by signing elite players like Suh. Meanwhile the Lions are doing nothing in FA, and guys like Reiff, Levy and others are just waiting to get out of here. Others are holding out for big money.

Dolphins are trending up. Lions are a sinking ship.

And lol at you needing to use the owner and not the GM. You really want to go there?

Oh, I thought we were supposed to show how both teams suck on this thread? My fault...lol
I'm not the one that doesn't want to discuss anything and everything Lions and Dolphins and Bears, oh my.

But it's a slippery slope man, you should be safe, I think. (I'd recommend you Get your decoder ring out and put it on. I forgot to do it earlier. That lapse came back to bite me in the ass.) But I can't be sure.

I'm not an ESPN insider (because who the fuck would be honestly) and the "writer" who put together this article sucks at his job and didn't make it clear at all. He said the biggest reason was that they have failed to add value in rounds 4-7. Then the next line is a whole new paragraph in which he states the actual number is negative 6.something per draft. Is that a negative 6 per draft overall, or just in rounds 4-7?

Either way, that is literally insane if you think about it. Every pick we make (or every pick we make in rounds 4-7) actually makes our team worse. Actually just going home and not picking anyone at all would be better for our team than what they have been doing. We should look into hiring Eric Cartman for our next GM. As soon as they announce that "The Detroit Lions are now on the clock" He can just call in and say "Fuck you guys, I'm going home."

Lions are a sinking ship.

Arrh? I thought they sunk like flying Dutchman from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. They only surface for a one and done playoff game to keep the fans hanging on.:tape2:

Here's why this is story is not a huge knock on Mayhew:

Its based on ProFootballReference's Approximate Value Rating. Meaning the players career's are taken into account. The more years a player has, the more accurate his AV. The AV is best used after a player has completed at least 3 years. This means Mayhew's last 3 drafts basically have no help to him in the analysis and all Millens drafts basically have the final outlook on their careers, which HEAVILY weighs the final analysis on Millen. Not Mayhew.

I'm not a fan of Mayhew at all. But you have to admit. He is solid in free agency.

Tulloch- 5 y 25 m.... Solid deal for a very good Mike LB
Bush- 4 y 16 m.... Only paid him about 8
Quin- 5 y 23.5 m.... Solid contract for pro bowl S in a passing driven league
Sims- 4 y 14 m.... Before last season, dude was solid as fuck
Levy- 3 y 9 m..... Pro bowl caliber player for 3 mil a year
Tate- 5 y 31 m.... Looks to be paying immediate dividends
Mathis- 2 y 3.5 m.... Only paid him 1-2 mil each of his last two seasons

Not to nitpick..... but.....He drafted Levy and traded for Sims.

Not sure Id put Bush on the positive list either. Not much bang for the buck on that one. Especially with the dead money.

Tully and Quin though, hell yeah.

6 years later you're still blaming Millen, and excusing Mayhew.

I guess I'm not surprised by anything you guys say anymore.

It's preposterous to blame Mayhew for the shipwreck. 2007 through 2009 the Lions defense was dead last... at the close of those 6 years you saw a #1 run defense and #2 total defense. That's not what people call a total (pardon my french) fuck up.

Got to admit. Blaming Millen is old at this point. Like Obama still blaming Bush for shit like 8 years ago.

We have been to the playoffs 2 of the last 4 years. No wins. Dude has an eye for drafting lineman but sucks huge donkey poo poo at drafting skill players. I'm hoping he picks all lineman or CB this year.

Well I meant the extension of Levy was pretty damn sweet. Paying an OLB 3 mill a year for two borderline all-pro seasons is a flat out steal.

No coincidence that Mayhew's most stubborn supporters here are also hardcore liberals. Just sayin'

He did improve after that contract. Seeing if he can sustain it without the elite advantage of playing behind Suh is one of this years most interesting story lines.
