Makes me wonder what another 1 year starter in Ron Parker is going to get. Everyone locally kind of laughed at him for asking for 6M AAS, but maybe he gets it in this market, I don't know.

WOW. I thought $10M+ per year was absurd but we're even a little over that!?

looool. Good luck Byron Maxwell, loved your time as a Hawks fan. Your agent deserves a very nice Christmas gift.

It's totally overpaying. It is also around what I expected Maxwell to get overpaid.

Yah Maxwell is a solid corner and there's no doubt he'll improve Philly's secondary, but not worth the improvement for $10M+. Maxwell was a FAR down the list of why Seattle's defense played so good. I would put basically every single Seattle defender above Maxwell in terms of value (starter wise).

Total overpay for what is essentially a #2 CB.

Agreed.

I suspect it is true, but FYI it seems the Philly reporters have not confirmed this, it was tweeted out by some guy named Jayson Braddock who hosts a radio show in Houston. Not exactly a prime source of NFL news from Philly/Seattle.

There is zero doubt that Maxwell is a good player. But playing on a team with the best defense & an elite secondary tends to make you look better than you are.

It will be interesting to see how how the contract is structured with the $25 mil guaranteed. I am thinking $10-15 mil signing bonus with a low first year salary & the first 2 years guaranteed.

I feel like on the open market a desirable free agent usually gets a 1-2 mil boost when there are teams bidding for them

Personally I feel like Maxwell is worth about 6-7 mil per with the potential to grow into a 8-9 mil corner

So the 10 mil is about right considering he is on the open market

It's crazy to think that just not so long ago Maxwell was behind Sherman, Browner, Thurmond, and Lane...and now he is getting PAID! Good for him and good for the Eagles. You guys got a really talented corner.

Good corner and Philly overpaid, but that's what is going to happen for a good locker room guy that can play.

That said, IMO he's worth 5 years $35-40M at MOST but all things considered he'll improve a very weak secondary.

Everyone in Seattle knew Maxwell was not going to be resigned so it's no sour grapes or surprise as a Hawks fan. IMO Philly fans, you got a good corner who can play well and is aggressive at the point of attack. If you got the money spend it IMO and they freed up some cash this year so might as well fill it up with some good players.

And the exodus from the Seattle defense starts.

Players want to be paid.

Huh? Yet they've retained: Wright, Bennett, Mebane, Avril, Thomas, Sherman, Chancellor... and have lost... Maxwell and some no name D-Lineman who were entirely replaced at a higher level but got nailed by some injuries later in the year.

I'm not sure what you're trying to imply? Seattle has little invested in offense outside of Wilson/Lynch, so the money has to be spend somewhere and it has, the defense.

Maxwell was like the 11th best player on the starting defense. I'd find any Hawk fan that would be hard pressed to take Maxwell over a single defensive starter. That doesn't mean Maxwell is bad, Seattle's defense is elite, it's just relative to the others, Maxwell is not as good.

And in before "If Seattle's defense was so elite why didn't they stop Brady!" It was pretty clear Avril's injury was the nail in the coffin on a D that was already so beat up/injured. As soon as Avril went down late 3rd, Brady had his 30 dump off passes that took it to the house. Also the fact Seattle's O went 3 and out twice when one decent drive would've summed the game up.
