Nothing is done yet, which is important to remember. Teams can and probably will make last minute offers to retain guys.

Some years back, there were reports Philly had signed Lecharles Bentley, as our posters were quick to recall this weekend. Turned out never to happen--Bentley backed out and signed with Cleveland, only to blow out his knee immediately.

I hope that is not true. Seattle has enough money locked up in the secondary. No reason to keep doing that when they have GLARING holes at DL/OL/WR/TE and technically QB until Wilson gets locked up.

Please remember that with all contracts it is not about the top dollar amount that matters. What matters is the guaranteed money. I haven't seen anything that actually shows what that would be. So it could be a deal that is $50 million but only $15 million is actually guaranteed and in reality the parts of the contract he would see would only have him paid something in the $7-8 million range kind of thing. Hard to tell at this time. The market though is showing that players and their agents know with the Cap going crazy over the next few years this is the time to ask for more money knowing somebody will pay.

This is where honestly it probably does work better for a team to just sit back and let the big names go off the board and see all these teams with tons of cap space spend it like there is no tomorrow then have the chance for the second tier market where the prices are a bit more reasonable but you can still get a talented player at a decent price.

Eagles CB Byron Maxwell's new six-year contract is worth $63 million with $25 million guaranteed.

Although Maxwell hasn't technically signed on the dotted line yet, the sides have formally agreed to terms. Maxwell will put pen to paper on Tuesday. Maxwell is a big, physical press corner who will likely play his natural right cornerback position in Philadelphia. They're targeting Tramon Williams to play left corner. Brandon Boykin will return as the slot corner.

Massive over pay product of having a ton of talent around him

Maxwell is a really good player, but I think Seattle can't justify paying their #2 CB that kind of money. There will be a name player or two that leaves this team every season, but that's really a good problem to have. Best of luck to him. Eagles will love having him on the team.

Eh, Philadelphia was desperate and made sure they got someone, anyone. They could have gotten better value but they really needed the help in the secondary.

Back in 1971 we were at sea for 72 days straight. To reward us for covering the line for two other carriers that had to have extensive repair, the US Navy sent us to Sydney, Austrailia. We had been in the far east for 8 months and we not returning home for another 5.

Talk about crazy? Ever seen a sailor with almost 3 months pay seeing a round eyed woman in a country where men were out-numbered 3:1?? !500 women on a pier waiting to meet Americans with a pocketful of dollars.
Like the Philadelphia Eagles with money to spend...............

It's totally overpaying. It is also around what I expected Maxwell to get overpaid.

You're more insightful than me...I thought $38 to $40mil and about $20 mil g to close it...$50mil...really? If it's back end loaded on the salary (which it probably is) I'm thinking he gets waived after 3.

It looks like it is $25 million guaranteed which isn't that bad for a 6 year deal.

"I'm thinking he gets waived after 3."

I think that's becoming the norm for most of these guys

This isn't as big of an overpay as people think IMO.

Maxwell is a solid player who simply got thrown at a lot because of who was on the other side and the nature of the Seattle defensive scheme. He'll be a legit #1 for the Eagles (that is only a top 16 CB in the league) over the first couple years of the deal at least.

Also people do need to do a little FA money conversion to understand how much players make. 2015 Cap: $143M. 2013 cap: $121 cap. If he signed this deal two offseasons ago it would have been a 6 year $54M deal (I am seeing final contract #'s of 6 year $63....5 year $53M deal now would equate to a 5 year $45 M contract in 2013).

Pretty comparable contract to guys like Ladarius Webb, Brandon Carr, Aqib Talib, Chris Harris all signed in their respective years.

Doesn't philly also run a lot of cover 3 press? If so, is it that hard to understand what Maxwell's value is for them? He's been playing on the top defense in the league that runs a similar style and has been under the teaching of Carroll for 4 years.

I really hope Seattle doesn't reach to try to keep him, and I'm not buying the reports that they are doing just that. They know they have work to do on Wilson and Wagner and what kind of cap space they really don't have for these kinds of things.

League doesn't pay RBs anymore, Corners are getting alot of that new found cheddar.

I disagree with Maxwell being a number 2.... he's a 2 on SEattle cause Shermans there but he's a 1 on about 27 or so other teams in the league.

I think more than his ability was the timing...much like Mike Wallace a couple of years ago...he was the big fish in a small pond.

The biggest thing about these big FA deals is the G$...$25mil over 6 is what we know he'll get unless there are those sneaky roster bonuses.

I actually agree. He is a bad ass in my opinion of watching him.
He will prove himself in philly (unfortunately)

Come on. How strong is that homer juice that comes out of the tap in Seattle???
