Hate to say "I told you so." Nobody was more disgusted by it than me. No surprise a coach that wanted to compete last year found the whole thing absurd.
Good for Marrone. I am now a bigger fan of his than ever. The Bills FO needs to eventually pull it's head out of it's behind. If the fans aren't going to hold them to the fire for their continued horrifying draft decisions, once their own coaches do they might listen to other people in the room.
So Marrone opts out of being the Head Coach of the Bills to ultimately sign on as the OL coach for the Jaguars. Something about that just doesn't read right.
Oh well, the Bills will still be paying him $4 million while he helps a conference "rival". Another great FO move at 1 Bills Drive.
That clause in his contract was put there in good faith in case there were issues with ownership. Marrone decided to twist that to try to get extensions for his staff. He didn't get them and opted out, basically leaving all of those coaches he was supposedly fighting for to twist in the wind without jobs. All the talk about doing it for his coaches is ultimately crap; he was just trying to get his own extension.
That's one interpretation. His coaches all would have got extensions if they deserved them. Lord knows if you have like 3 good games in a row the Bills will extend you for like 4 years.
Marrone was fed up with upper management (like some fans) and quit while he was ahead. He saw the poop at the end of the tunnel. Bills FO should have never structured his contact the way they did. An epic fail every which way you slice it.
yes Marrone booked it while he was ahead but looks like he might have overplayed his hand. he wasn't really considered for any of the head coaching jobs and settled as a o-line coach. was reading other FO's in the league don't believe he is very loyal to a club and don't believe he is worth the risk...
