So is that on top of 15-16 million?

If that is extra then they can use the off-season budget to just cut Haniger. Haniger being on the team is killing them from doing a lot these rumored Castillo deals cause you can carry basically 3 DH’s.
No, the budget set is the same as the amount reportedly they are getting from MLB to spend. Now some question if Seattle gets that money like others, but if it is true it is even more embarrassing than before.

In 2018 Mariners fought having to pay the entire maintenance fees on the stadium and fought it with the county. They got the county to pitch in money and agreed on new lease. We were 8th in payroll in 2018. Then dropped to 11th in 2019. Then in the 20's for most of the next few years topping out at 17th last year. Coincidence?
That whole thing was so dumb because they paid money lobby to not have to pay, but also paid money to lobby to torpedo the proposed Sonics arena next door. Instead of just putting money into the baseball product they spent money on stuff that put money into their pocket but not the baseball pool.

Well that money spent got the county to pay $135M towards their responsibilities. So money well spent I am guessing.

Prices are higher because people willing to pay them. That is economic growth. Will it continue? I never thought it would last this long so???

TV deals are a mess. I think MLB eventually just takes them all over except for the large markets teams that will continue to rake it in and have the enormous economic advantage.

I thought the fan apathy would have happened decades ago. It doesn't even seem to slow down.

I think Manfred is an idiot, but in reality he is just the owner's puppet.
But the economic growth IMO, fake isn’t the right word something similar. IIRC private citizen season ticket holders is at an all time low. Third party vendors are propping that up.

I do think that is where it is going but that is going to lead to a massive CBA issue which my end up being like the 94 strike where Congress has to get involved.

I feel you on that opinion but I think that dam has broken. Oakland was just the first. I don’t think they are going to be able to hold municipalities hostage anymore. Especially cause the league wanted Vegas badly but it doesn’t appear Vegas wants the A’s. Same with Tampa.

I know he is the puppet cause that’s his job but he showed how inept he is with his handling of Oakland and Tampa. And isn’t making friends in municipalities that have minor league baseball. How long is SLC going to sit there and offer the moon to get a team if MLB screws over SLC with their minor league team there. Basically he is a really bad puppet if he is taking the league down the path where owners have going to have to privately finance their stadiums.

So you add Bregman and Alonso for $60M. That puts your payroll at $202M (projected with arb cases). You trade Castillo for young guys and save $20M. Puts you back to $182M. That would put you 6th just ahead of Texas and just behind Atlanta. Right where they should be. That isn't even fantasy talk. It should be reality.

This is my one disagreement. He wasn't inept in this. He followed the large markets owner's directive.

So from rumors out there the $15M budget isn't a budget but required spending from MLB. The money reportedly isn't even the M's. It is MLB money and they are required to spend it on players. Sheesh.

15 guys at a mil on 1yr contracts. Lets F'ing go!

But he followed the usual mandate and now the A’s are going to play in a minor league park for the foreseeable future. Owners voted to let him leave Oakland but my prediction is the owners are going to force him to sell the team before the A’s play an inning in Vegas. We may disagree but I think he bungled Oakland and showed the days of commissioners bullying municipalities are over
