I was going to post about this then saw this. It actually was a good listen. Gave some good excuses for ownership but also the Mariners are $40 million short on what the payroll should be.

Agreed. The rumor mill says the Phils are desperate to move him. Well, they must not want to get rid of him that badly if they expect a package like that in return.

I’m wondering if there was more to the trade that than. Those were just the big names. But agreed the M’s should’ve hung up and not call the Phillies ever again.

Chicago Cubs Reportedly Targeting Pitcher Bryan Woo in Trade Talks with Seattle Mariners

On Wednesday, we heard that the Seattle Mariners had at least discussed the idea of trading for Chicago Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner. The two sides had made contact, but we don't really know to what length.

Someon wrote about them already thinking about building around this new upcoming group in the minors. I mean just because the first try didn't work doesn't mean this won't... Man they are irritating. I guess they can afford the pitchers in two years because they will only be paying Julio and maybe Cal with all other positions filled with rookie deals. I feel so lucky to be a fan.

Well, if contracts keep spiraling upward the way they are now, I'm not sure I would uinvest any money in the current starting lineup. Cal, as solid a he has been, has been abused. He's starting about 20-25 games at catcher more than he should be. Its going compromise his shelf life as an effecttive offensive weapon. We've seen it happen to too many catchers.

ARoz is probably only going to be with the Mariners one more year. He's an FA in 2027 and will undoubtedy get an 8-figure contract when he goes to arbitration next winter, no matter how much he plays of sucks. My guess they trade in July or next winter.

If Gilbert, FA in 2028, keeps on this pace for another two years, it will take 7 years/$260 million to re-sign him.
Kirby, FA in 2029, 7 years/$210 million
Gilbert and Kirby will both be 31 when they hit free agency
Woo will be a year younger, at 30, when he hits FA in 2030. It's too soon to tell about him, but assumming he keeps it going, 8 years/$304 million.
Bryce Miller will be an 'old man' at 32 when he becomes a FA in 2030. Who knows how he will pan out. But again, keeping the glass half full, 6 years/$180 million.

If anyone gets traded this winter, my money is on Kirby who regressed a little last season. Not much, but enough to be noticeable. Castillo is the guy I'd prefer they traded. He's 32 years old and is still owed $91million. But, Kirby, with no contract baggage, will be easier to move and bring back a better package.
