Listened to the London game this morning . A-Rod said he would not teach his kids launch angle but how to not strike out .
I just don’t get it because it completely contradicts nearly all of front office’s philosophy of not wanting their stars to hit in the home run derby because it messes up their swing. Obviously launch angle isn’t as simplistic as that and it works for a certain type of player but not all players let alone an entire team.

I'm not anti-derby and our players should be on the big stage (all-star game) when they've earned it but no one on this team has earned anything. All of them should take the time off, relax, rework their approach like you said and try to flip the switch in the second half.
I am not anti-derby in general, just for our hitters. Nothing good comes from it for players other than fame and money which neither helps their teams for the season. He says he is doing it for the fans of Seattle, but as a Seattle fan I would he rather do what you listed. Take some time off. Go watch it if you want, but this can't help him fix his swing. But it is a different time in baseball so who knows what is right or wrong anymore.

My prediction, they will be in the World Series in 2024, I don’t quite have the stones to say they will this year. What the heck, we will probably trade Gilbert or Woo to the Reds for India.

This isn’t a knock on Julio, but De La Cruz is who I think most of us fans thought Julio played last year cause we have been starved for so long.

I was thinking that the other day as well. Of course I was never in favor of handing Julio that much money that soon into his career. 82 games never defines a player yet M's thought it did.

I think Mariners front office / top brass were desperate to lay claim to a 'franchise' player brought up through THEIR organization and stick that feather in their cap and thump their chest to the Mariners faithful and proclaim: 'Look what we have done'

Julio is talented no doubt and he belongs on a MLB roster. But he is just a tad above average for an MLB outfielder from what I am seeing.

And yes it appears the Mariners emptied their purse and chose poorly.

He needs to work as hard in the off season on his complete game offensively ( about as hard as JK has worked the past year ).
He needs to spend a little less time gold chain shopping and alot more time in the box with a hitting coach. Just my .02 cents

Oh ya I know exactly why they paid him. It is the Jr-ARod-Ichiro-Felix-Cano method. Pay one guy a lot and have him draw in the crowd. Plus it looks like they spend a lot because they give out one big contract, but in reality they are still middle of the road in payroll. Again, business side is very smart.
