Who else played in the WBC? Didn't Castillo?

Maybe I'm idiotic for thinking this, but I feel bad for Castillo because I thought he pitched a great game Friday night but the stat line doesn't show it. I suppose in the end it doesn't matter how well you pitch if you get the loss.
No he wanted to but Mariners didn't.

  • Blake Townsend, LHP, Australia
  • Matt Brash, RHP, Canada
  • Diego Castillo, RHP, Dominican Republic
  • Teoscar Hernández, OF, Dominican Republic
  • Julio Rodríguez, OF, Dominican Republic
  • Harry Ford, C, Great Britain
  • Matt Festa, RHP, Italy
  • Milkar Perez, INF, Nicaragua
  • Jose Caballero, INF, Panama
  • Eugenio Suárez, INF, Venezuela

No fucking fight in these guys. Tying run at the plate in Teoscar with two outs and he never takes the bat off his shoulder. They don't care.
You would think that if Teoscar didn't care he'd at least be trying to pad his stats as he's an upcoming free agent.

Only "bright side" about Teoscar being far below expected is that here is his career OPS numbers by month:

March/April: .752
May: .670
June: .845
July: .871
August: .814
September/October: .872

Never liked Diego Castillo and not surprised he struggled.

Take those numbers and devalue by 20% (The Mariner Dues)

But good point. Maybe he will get hot enough to get a 19 year for him at the deadline.

Julio continues to lead...us down.

Did WBC play any role in these guys sucking ass this year?

Julio is getting a steady diet of breaking balls and waving at 95% of them ( even the ones bouncing on the plate )

he simply cannot recognize what pitch to lay off and what pitch to swing at. An absolute shit show right now.

We have a Eugenio Suarez problem. Nobody will call him out because of all the "good vibes" shit from last year and the fact that he actually seems like a really nice guy, but here's where we are at:

His player profile is low average, high strikeouts, that are offset by his power.

We have all of the negatives with none of the positives now. His slugging percentage is about 150 points lower as is his OPS. He's under contract through 2024, with a $2m buyout for 2025. Mariners don't exactly have any internal replacements for him, and at this point it's even worth wondering if even he's viable as a DH, which is really saying something considering our offensive output from that position.

I laugh at this, but sadly I've reached the point where I just expect hitters to regress in a Mariners uniform.

I don't see any obvious explanation, but it's been too consistent through the years to dismiss it as coincidental.

No I was thinking hitters. Julio, Teoscar and Suarez all look lost. Thought maybe a nonconventional spring might factor in. Damn I am making up excuses like Dipoto now.

The predicted meat of our line up. I am pretty sure we started the season with that trio #3-4-5 in the batting order.

All 3 are easy outs for opposing pitchers then we have a slew of .200 hitters right after them that are easy pickin's

Julio seems to be heating up. I'm using selective numbers and this doesn't include today's game, but he's hitting .366 the last 17 games with 5 HRs. The strikeouts are way too high and way too consistent throughout this lineup to not be an issue with the coaching staff.

Suarez I worry is done. He's striking out a ton and not making up for it with extra base hits. I also worry that Suarez is so likable that he won't be held to the same accountability as someone like Teoscar or Wong. I don't think I've ever seen his struggles being mentioned by local media.

I just watch Julio's AB's. He is so out of touch right now...all year. That is a good average, but not great recognition on his part. I would never throw him a fast ball.

Suarez looks like his bat has slowed way down from last year. He seems to be having the same problems he had in Cincinnati his last two years there.

Teoscar...no clue. I always thought he was a roll player in Toronto and never gave him much thought. It wasn't until we traded for him that he suddenly became Trout by fans. He, to me, looks like the guy I thought he was.

Baseball teams do have off years..
If this is just.that..
Mariners.are still.climing the latter.
We knew..
They.were.ardvanced....and there run deferential..show that..
True, the problem is the Mariners making the playoffs was their off year. This year's Mariners is back to what they've consistently always been.
