This is really, really, really not good.

Boston Bruins centre Marc Savard was evaluated by team doctors on Monday and has been deemed to have suffered a concussion.

The 33-year-old is out definitely.

Savard suffered the head injury during the second period of Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche, when he was hit by former teammate Matt Hunwick and crashed into the boards head-first. Savard did not travel to Los Angeles with the Bruins, but rather went to Boston on Sunday to see doctors.

He's signed thru 2017. No idea what he'll do.

With his history...there's a very good chance that he's gone for the season.

In reading those comments from September from Savvy, he was a ticking time-bomb.

Great link Hawaiian. After reading that, Campbell and even Bettman disgust me. What it shows is they want as much violence in the game as possible to keep profits healthy. "We sell hate". that's sad, just sad, and what's worse is many fans don't want rule changes because they love the hate. Hockey is a violent sport as it is, but that doesn't mean they can't make it a game where players are protected better from these kinds of injuries.
Derek Sanderson once said "As soon as the players were required to wear helmets, the high sticking infractions (and I believe head shots) increased ten fold". The players are to blame as much as Campbell and Bettman I believe. they're the ones who should be in agreement 100% and force the league to make the necessary changes to start protecting them from these kinds of hits and injuries. It's time to change the rules, including increasing fines and suspensions, to protect the players and integrity of the league. If the superstars keep getting knocked out for games at a time, and/or eventually being forced to retire, there is no league. JMO

Not that the VS panel is the most credible, but they were just saying his career is in jeopardy. And that if he is smart he won't play in the NHL again... :L :( :L

Collie is a worthless crooked turd, and Bettman isn't worth a bent dick for not firing his ass, but at some point the players are going to have to take matters into their own hands and stop running guys in dangerous positions. You CAN play hard hitting, hard checking, tough physical hockey without knocking guy's heads, wrecking knees, and other potentially permanent injuries. It's an extremely fast sport with razor sharp skates, rock hard pads, elbows, hard slippery ice, and every player gets his own weapon. Shit WILL happen, but until the players start respecting each other there really won't be a solution. You can attempt to legislate it out, but you could end up making players so gun shy that it takes a lot of the hitting out of the game.

They need to remove the instigator.

They need to make any DELIBERATE head shot a mandatory 15 game suspension for first offenses.

They need to start early, and drill it into kids heads in youth hockey leagues that you can hit, and you can hit hard without wrecking guy's noggins.

Almost every single NHL game I watch, I see a guy facing the boards, maybe 5-10 feet away get hit from behind and fall headfirst into the boards. They don't get hit hard, usually, it's usually an awkward hit or a guy in a weird position, an accident. But almost every game this play happens, and I just cringe. Usually the guy gets up, no harm, but I think it goes to show the mentality with some guys on the ice. There are things that are ingrained into their game and their play on the ice that have become habits, much like the hooking and holding became second nature to guys in the late 90's early 00's. Something needs to change at the core of the game.

Marc Savard never got a lot of press, but anyone who loves and watches hockey knows how much fun he is to watch on the ice. He's a very talented player with slick puck skills and amazing vision. He's the kind of guy that isn't going to really end up on the highlights every night, but he consistently makes really smart, impressive passes and clever plays. He's a lot more talented and fun to watch than probably 90% of the league, and if guys like that keep on getting concussed and removed from the game, it's going to be 30 teams with one or two stars, and a bunch of Brent Gilchrists.

Campbell needs to go, and the players also need to step up and say "enough". They need to respect each other and respect the game, or the league will not thrive. I know it's easier said than done, but it is possible to change the league for the better.

As much as I would hate to see Savard retire knowing what he means to the team, if he should come to that point and feel that the risk far outweighs the reward then I would respect his decision. Having said that, Savard is a fighter and he loves the sport. I wouldn't be surprised if he chose to continue playing even if he received strong medical advice urging him to hang the skates up. I wish him the best regardless.

"After the double-murder suicide, former wrestler Christopher Nowinski contacted Michael Benoit, father of Chris Benoit, suggesting that years of trauma to his son's brain may have led to his actions. Tests were conducted on Benoit's brain by Julian Bailes, the head of neurosurgery at West Virginia University, and results showed that "Benoit's brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient." He was reported to have had an advanced form of dementia, similar to the brains of four retired NFL players who had suffered multiple concussions, sank into depression, and harmed themselves or others. Bailes and his colleagues concluded that repeated concussions can lead to dementia, which can contribute to severe behavioral problems. Benoit's father suggests that brain damage may have been the leading cause of the crime."

Yeah, head shots, concussions, they're overblown. No big deal. Man up pussies.

Real men play through it.. and then enjoy activities such as sitting in the dark, falling off couches, and murdering their families.
