He'll be on a television interview, along with his parents, with Katie Couric on Thursday.

His girlfriend died! Why would she ask him tough questions?

You are heartless! I bet you would have wanted to ask Lyle and Erik Menendez tough questions after they lost their parents!

I'm done with it.

Maybe he was involved from the start, may be he just ran with it when he found out he'd been duped. He's just a kid who made a mistake. Legally not a kid, but I certainly was not all that mature, mentally at that age. If the national media was notified of all my mistakes back then, I'm sure I'd make the front page many times.

All of his notoriety and awards are a result of a good story becoming more important than play, I certainly don't blame him for that. Did he have a good season? Yes, but not to the degree of taking home as much hardware as he did.

I hope he learns from this and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

The only people who should care about this are the NFL GMs who are considering drafting a retarded person.

Is there any equivalent to the Rooney Rule regarding that?

Kelly might well have been trying to protect Te’o. But 21 days passed before Deadspin.com broke the story that his girlfriend was a hoax. There is no way that anyone looking out for Te’o would have allowed it to drag on that long, or allowed Deadspin to break the story and control the narrative.

Why was it ND's story to break? They said they left it to the Te'o family.

ND was hoping it would die (no pun intended) on the vine, just like the Manti Te'o was.

It was an 'inspirational' story right up ND's alley. They and Manti Te'o both benefited from all of the exposure.

That didn't address my question at all.

They benefited from the inspirational story themselves. Manti Te'o was enrolled at their school and playing for their football team throughout the entire media driven hoax.

How long do you suppose ND would have let the hoax live in lore had Deadspin not outed it?

IMO, if the Te'o family had remained mum: Indefinitely

Clearly they knew this story wasn't going to slide under the radar, which is why they reacted as quickly as they did. They weren't worried about if; only when, as Swarbrick had said.

How long you figure they would have stayed mum, if they Te'o family did as well?

A couple more weeks max. They would have made it public with or without Te'o approval. I don't think they would have let it go into ND lore as people suggest. Especially with so many people in the university knowing it was a lie.
