I think there's too much focus on the Cubs/Pirates specifically, my comments were directed towards the Wild Card format. It's not like 2 teams from the same division are going to face off in the Wild Card every year. My point was that 1 game doesn't seem like enough to declare one team better than another.

You could say "too bad, should have won your division" but the same could have easily been said about the 2nd Wild Card team a few years ago. "Too bad, should have had the best record out of the teams that didn't win their division". In a game like baseball, where luck plays a larger part than in other sports, a 1 game playoff seems pointless. In my opinion, they should make the wild card a 3 game series or get rid of it entirely.

Texas just won Game 1, is that to say they are better than the Blue Jays?

The Wild Card is supposed to be just that. A WILD CARD. It is second chance for teams that did not make it to possibly get in.

Does the winner of a 7-game series always represent who the "better" team was? Why not play a best of 59 series? That would be a better gauge of the better team, right?

I suggest changing the entire playoffs to a 1 game winner take all game.

Playoffs would be done in a week. Great idea since these 1 game WC games are so exciting. Why not do it for the LDS, LCS, and WS?

“Even before this wild card started and we got into it, I’ve never been a big fan of the format because it’s so completely different than what you do during the course of the season,” Girardi said in an interviewicon1.png with WFAN’s Mike Francesa.

Girardi would like to see a best-of-three wild card format, with the winner proceeding onto the divisional round without a day off. Doing so would still reward the top seeds in each league and penalize the wild cards for not winning their divisions. The top seeds would be well rested entering the division series, and they would likely pitch their ace against the wild card winner’s No. 4 starter, Girardi said.

“There’s just so many things that can happen in one game,” Girardi said. “And you play for so long, and to only have one-game chance, it’s tough. I understand why they do it. It creates a lot of excitement for baseball.”

They still have to allow a day for 163s. So they would not be able to start the WC round until Tuesday at the earliest. They would also have to play both WC G1s on the same day.

What format do you want? 1-1-1? 2-1? 1-2? 3-0? I think a 3-0 is the only thing that allows for proper timing. But is THAT fair?

Then, if we do not allow a travel day, that means the LDS 's cant start until Friday. That also means that all LDSs will be on the same schedule, which they dont like because of TV. They want to stagger the games to increase view-ability.

I could go with something like this, but the league will not. The WC series' will draw no viewers if it isnt a winner-take-all single game and the LDS series viewership will take a beating as well since the games would not be staggered.

Why not start the season a few days earlier? Season started on April 5th this year. Why not start it a few days earlier like March 31 or something?

They want 162 to be a Sunday. They cant just shift the start/end by a couple days.

Baseball is a business first, second, third, ..., 198th, and a competition 199th.

And besides, then we are getting back to the competitive argument of icing the "better" teams.

I feel you're already icing them by having them sit for 3 or 4 days. What's another day or 2?:noidea:

I think divisions are a waste nowadays. The Mets and the Dodgers should've been battling it out in the wildcard. Not the second and third best teams in baseball. I think that's ridiculous.

Exactly. If they want to keep this system, at least reseed the the 5 teams and have the 4th/5th teams face each other. Those reason for the 2nd and 3rd place teams to be put in that scenario. Both should have been in the LDS comfortably

Wow. So far, in 3 whole postseason games and this first half inning, the road team has been dominating. Yankees never led against Astros, Pirates didn't get a run in at all, and Jays offense mostly asleep in the Rangers G1 win...crazy. Home field really doesn't matter these days.
