Anybody here ever been there? Recently? I got scheduled to go to Hotayi for work in a few weeks. Never been and have no clue what I’m in for culture-wise. Plan is to be there for 2 weeks.

well, i've never been to malaysia, but my advice would be: i don't care how many times she tells you she'll love you long time, she's most likely a "he"!

I apparently don’t know how to read Malaysian addresses. Penang is the city. Seb Perai is the township? Fuck if I know.

    Staying at the Equatorial Hotel.

Just found out that malaysia has the 2nd highest excise tax on beer in the world. Meaning it’s going to be expensive as fuck.

    Verdict so far:

Don't come here. Unless you like squatting over a pan to take a shit & rinsing your ass cheeks with a hose.

I may be overdramatizing it a tad... but still don’t recommend public toilets. Even the western style ones are equipped with the hoses. And the people that are used to the eastern style make a huge mess of them every time they use the western ones. Looks like someone had a water gun fight in there.

It's all clearer, now. I worked for a company in New Jersey years ago and the Indian immigrant software engineers (very bright folks) had to be told not to bath in the restroom sinks. At first, I thought they were only changing clothes. LOL.

Yep that sound about right! We had to specifically request toilet paper at the place we were working at.

It wasn’t a tough course, but very beautiful. Course was a little worse for wear around the edges but in good shape. And the rough there is more like a cabbage salad. Deceptively thick! Very difficult to get out of. And you didn’t spend much time hunting for balls since the monkeys & lizards were mean sonsabitches

Foods ranged from all over Southeast Asia. Lots of seafood based cuisine, but also tons of chicken (Indian foods)

Monitor Lizard. Pretty much harmless unless you tick them off.

Anyone going into the Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia area needs to check with their doc for malaria prevention medications. It's a series of pills, starting before you leave, while you are there & for a time afterward.

    Hint...you do not want malaria

Lizard... I bent over to get my phone within a couple feet of it so I could get a better picture and it reared on me and got very aggressive. Even my golf caddy told me to back off.

Yep, I had a occupational health appt where they prescribed me just 1 pill, but gave me a series of shots for Typhoid, Hep & something else. Yellow fever? Can't quite recall. But Penang was considered a safe zone for Malaria, and I was only instructed to take the pills if I went into rural areas of Malaysia. Thankfully we didn't stray too far outside of Penang central districts. The most rural place we visited was to go to a seafood place in Bukit Tambun.
