Yeah, Mr. "It's not about the money" now wants a bigger contract than the $84 million contract he turned down.

He does have some leverage with the Lakers because if they let him walk, they can't afford to sign anyone better. Hopefully, they'll be able to find a sign and trade partner.

This really should be the first move after the draft the Lakers should embark on as it would instantly improve the backcourt and rid the Lakers of basically a bad fit in Schroeder. Signing Caruso and Tucker-Horton should be the next two steps.

I'm not too concerned about the Suns to be honest. Not that that they aren't good, but look at their path.

They got the Lakers with 60% of Lebron and no AD.

They got the Nuggets without Jamaal Murray.

And they got the Clippers without Kawhi.

If Lebron is still at 60%, but the Lakers have a healthy AD, the Suns don't get out of the first round.

Seriously though, I'm thinking the Suns are going to be a problem for a few years to come. They already looked like they were figuring things out at the end of last year. Adding CP3 shortened their learning curve.

Now, they're young and have finals experience.

And the Lakers have finally reached the beginning of their journey to the bottom by being an aging team with a disjointed roster and not many assets to get out fast. Nope. This year's transactions are going to prove either brilliant or the beginning of a decent into the rebuild they haven't planned on just yet.

I was speaking more to the threat of the Suns in coming years. CP3 will be tough to replace as he fades on his upcoming 3 year extension (and there will be a few more max and/or elevated deals in place by then for current young players). Payne, Kaminsky and Craig are FA this summer, Bridges and Ayton next summer. Any cap/luxury tax space is going to disappear very quickly.
