Have them apply for unemployment. It's the American way!
So, the officials take a shitty deal so that they can actually work, or they can fight for what they think is fair pay, but the NFL uses the ol "strong arm 'em till they have no more money" tactic.
I know refs have other jobs, but they've had the fall set in their calenders as specific work opportunities. Since the NFL is the side that (from what I've read) refuses to sit at the negotiating table, they are the assholes here.
I was closer to the owners side during some of the player disputes (if I remember correctly) but the refs deserve a fair wage, and to not waste have an entire season's worth of work lost to this lockout shit, which is only happening cause refs don't throw Touchdowns for the NFL.
