Seems most people on here are echoeing my point which i have presented in a civilized manner for a couple of hours now and now im on to the sarcastic approach to make my point clear since he is not getting it. plus if it's not cool with you that is definately none of my concern.

You asked "how could I not (be a dick)"? All I did was give you a simple answer to your question. If that is not cool with you, that is definitely none of my concern.

Anyone else think that this conversation has gotten out of hand?

No, it's fine. I'm not going to let it devolve into anything.

lasgop8, I completely get that you're coming from the traditional approach in more ways than one. But there is an underlying civil issue here, because Sean Avery is not just a hockey player: He is a gay rights activist. This isn't the typical hockey talk that is solved with a good thrashing. Sean Avery's profile in the LGBT community makes this a bigger thing than five minutes for fighting.

If you don't want to go to a forum where people answer questions even if not directly asked.....don't go to those types of forums.

At least you don't make hasty generalizations.

This conversation is ridiculous. Sports are not a venue for civil rights and athletes are not role models. If anyone really wants to argue civil rights then I would refer you to this...

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

A person can say pretty much whatever they want whether the masses agree with them or not. It is a right then countless liberty loving and patriotic souls have fought and died for. In my opinion those people/groups who want to take away our 1st amendment rights should be prosecuted for treason and executed in public.

That's all I have to say about the Civil rights end, now back to hockey.

Yea Simmonds called Avery a faggot(I agree with his assesment) he said something to hurt Seany's feeling and he gets fined. Now where is the fine for Avery punching Simmonds in the face? He was down on 1 knee in a wrestling match with another Ranger and had no reason to expect being sucker punched and no way to defend himself.

Is the NHL really willing to put the message out there that you can physically assault and risk injuring an unsuspecting player but you can't say something that hurts feelings?

I said I felt both players should be penalized.

Sean Avery has more derogetory lines in hockey than anyone else in the league, he calls people bitches and says they play like girls and talks about moms and sisters and so on. Where were you on those issues? Hockey has fighting in it for a reason and thats to stop people from talking shit and taking cheap shots. Plus i'm sure avery coming out for gay rights had nothing to do with Simmonds calling him a faggot he called him that so that he would drop the gloves and fight like a man just the same as when Avery calls someone a bitch.

Penalizing both players is fine is the time fits the crime. If the NHL wants to not allow these types of slurs that's fine they need to explain that to the players and set an acceptable punishment if that's $2,500 then that works. The punishment for risking injury to an unsuspecting player should be a no questions asked suspension, because if they do not take that hard line player will continue to be hurt and suffer shortened careers.

My point was though where is the discussion on the discipline for the sucker punch?
