I'm unsure how to feel about it. All I know about Snider is that he's yet to live up to his potential, but hasn't had a ton of MLB experience. He's a power bat, and basically a top prospect. Great defensively as well it seems. I love Lincoln though. I saw him as the future closer. That said, closers are easier to come by than slugging corner OFs.

In my opinion Bad Deal Neal is 0-2. Hated the Rodriguez trade and this one is just about as bad. Lincoln was under team control through 2017 and was developing into a solid late inning reliever with closer potential. Hanrahan is getting expensive and they have few options to replace him.

Sinder reminds me of Clement. With the incredible job the Blue Jays do in developing hitters (Bautista, Encarnacion, etc....), Snider looks like a bust.

Time will tell.

I think they gave up way too much for a declining starter and dealt a young reliable reliever for a questionable hitter.

I fail to see how this makes them better.

This is just my opinion, but I absolutely Love this trade for the Pirates. Travis Snider, as said, does not have a ton of MLB experience. And, yes, he has struggled a bit at times with the Blue Jays.

However, he is a young power bat, with yrs of team control left, that the Pirates can now team with Marte & McCutchen. He was a former Blue Jays top prospect & while he has struggled admitedly with the Blue Jays organization, he is from what I hear anyway, a good defensive OF & he has shown flashes of great power & a good hitting stroke.

While I really have liked the work Brad Lincoln has been doing in the pen. We have seen that Neal Huntington has been very good at assembling a bull pen for the Pirates over the yrs.

I would much rather give up a guy like Lincoln for a kid like this, who is young, with loads of potential, than give Lincoln up for a Victorino, who would be gone in 2 months or a Choo who would have been very expensive & gone in 1.5 yrs.

I really like this move. I think it could pay off for the Bucs Big Time & give us one of the best young outfields in all of MLB for yrs to come.

I really like this trade for the Bucs. Snider could blossom for us & be a stud.

Just my opinion.

I am not sure what there is not to like about this, but that being said, as we sit now, it isn't a drastic improvement. The reason I see this as a good trade is because we have an abundance of pitchers in the minors that can pitch in relief, but don't have much in the upper levels in the way of outfield prospects. He is better than Grossman, whom we traded.
Hopefully, this guy can eventually figure it out like Alex Gordon did for the Royals.

I never was a fan of Lincoln but he did turn into a good reliever this year. Snyder hasn't worked out so far but one thing to remember he is the same age as Marte.

Not sure Lincoln will turn into a closer but a bullpen arm is something that can be replaced easier than a Power hitting OF. Also not sure if Snyder will become anything but the same can be said for Lincoln who before part of one season hasn't done much, which the same can be said for Snyder.

It doesn't really hurt us in the short run, and could be a huge help in the long run. I like the deal. It's exactly the kind of thing we wanted: get a guy we'll have for years without giving much up. Even if he doesn't blossom into a stud hitter, it's not like he's stealing a spot from a worthy candidate, and as has been mentioned, we have plenty of guys who can pitch in relief. I mean, we got Grilli off waivers. We can always come by competent relievers to replace Lincoln.

Also: I think this marks the end of Jose Tabata in a Pirates uni. Sulking in AAA really got him far...

The more I think about it, the more I love it. Both guys were being sold on upticks in value. They're each others equivalent in hitting/pitching...and we have plenty of pitching, not as much hitting. Gosh our OF could be insane soon.

I liked Lincoln and I think this deal has the potential to hurt us pretty bad as far as this season goes.

Having said that - I'd do this deal over and over again. Snider has so much power potential. He's had some wrist problems that have affected his numbers in the past but he's healthy this year. Getting out of the AL East might help and you know he's going to like the Clemente Wall too.

On the down-side we're going to need to protect him from facing lefties. It's pretty well known that he can't handle a finesse lefty. Fortunately we already have the rights to Wandy Rodriguez so that's one less that we have to worry about.

If he gets himself straightened out then this could easily be a Rincon for Giles kind of a steal.

So who plays RF against LHP? Harrison? Sutton? I wish that crap-head Tabata would start to care.

Clemente Wall is named and built specifically as a tribute to #21 Clemente...it is 21 feet tall.

Lincoln was my favorite of our middle relievers, plus he has shown he can start in a pinch. I'm sad to see him go. Hopefully Snider will help me forget him, but it will take more from him than we've seen so far in the Majors for that to happen. I'm taking a wait-and-see for now.

Thanks for that reference, stillmatic. It provides good info from a BlueJay perspective.

I like the trade. Snider has enough potential AND has performed well enough to warrant such a deal on the part of the Pirates. His status and performance as an outfield prospect has been as good as Lincoln's status and performance as a pitching prospect. In my world, such a position player is more valuable than such a relief pitcher.

Obviously, time will tell, but this is a trade NH had to make. Snider had 2 years and 15 days of major league service time at the beginning of 2012..... so he has at least 3 years of control left.

Not really a fan of these reclamation projects of potential power bats with contact issues, they never seem to work. But Lincoln was just a reliever, so I'm pretty meh on this trade. Don't see it making a huge impact either way.

Like most Pirate fans, I'm sorry to see Lincoln go. Clearly, he was looking good in his relief role. One other thought..... many (including Hurdle) seem to have forgotten that Lincoln carries a pretty good bat for a pitcher. That becomes less important with Lincoln pitching in relief..... but COULD make him available as a pinch hitter in some situations.

At any rate, noting that the Dodgers acquired Victorino from the Phillies for a young relief pitcher (Josh Lindblom) whose performance is fairly comparable to Lincoln's..... I'm gratified that the Pirates went for Travis Snider rather than Victorino.

As a prototypical leadoff hitter, Victorino MAY have fit the Pirates' needs a bit better right now, but he's strictly a rental guy, and there's no guarantee that he'll rebound in the near-term. Meanwhile, Snider is much younger and reportedly has 4 more years of control. I like Snider's power and he has a .735 OPS in 835 at bats over 5 partial seasons. Even if he only MATCHES that, he'll be an upgrade.

I also like the reports of Snider being a good clubhouse guy.

Element..... I understand your concern about reclamation projects..... but this one has a better "feel" to it (at least for me) than many past efforts. I can only assume that the Pirates did their "due diligence' on Snider's wrist problems. (Shame on them if they didn't.)

I feel Snider could work out in a BIG way for the Bucs.

I am very excited to watch Cutch Marte & Snider play in the Pirates OF for many yrs to come.

Snider could end up being a very big piece in the Pirates plans for contending. Not only this yr, but for yrs to come.

I will take that youth & potential power bat, for a RP any day of the week.

As we have seen in the past, Neal Huntington is very good at building bullpens for this team. He will do so, again.

I think the Snider for Lincoln deal is a Big Win for the Pirates, now & in to the future.
