I think our OCs will get to be head coaches somewhere by then.

interesting move, I think Brown likes his stubbornness.

"Mike and I are very comfortable working together," Lewis said at his regularly scheduled noon news conference on Tuesday, where news suddenly broke out with Lewis's fifth extension.

"Nobody in this city wants to win more than the man upstairs. And it's my job to help get him there."

LOL.

69-77-1 and on the hook for three more seasons.

Nobody rewards mediocrity like the Brown family.

Cue all the folks chirping about how we are blessed to have Lewis because of where we were before him.

I'm totally indifferent with this move. Yeah, Marv is a mediocre HC. On the other hand, I do like the direction that the team has gone since his last extension. I think he does have Brown's ear and has input on the personnel (which I've been very happy with over the past couple years). Plus, you never know who the hell Brown would hire if Marv was gone. Most likely Zimmer (who doesnt seem like HC material to me) or Gruden (ditto). Could also go the nepotism route and hire Chip Lombardi.

I was fully expecting him to hire Kerry Combs.

I don't doubt Mike Brown wants to win, and win badly to validate himself in his daddy's shadow, he just doesn't know how to do it!! :)

Brown doesn't care about winning at all. To him it's nothing more than a nice consolation to making money.

He certainly treats it like a business, he won't anything like public opinion get in the way.

It is a business and a multi-million dollar business at that. He is a strict, penny pinching business owner, but I have never doubted his desire to win, he just doesn't know how to do it since he is in charge of too much stuff in the organization that a lot of teams hire the professionals that have been doing it for years (GM, scouts, etc).

Me and Flaming once again will have to respectfully agree to disagree. Mike Brown wants to win, and he wants to get out from his daddy's shadow, he just doesn't have the knowledge to get out of that shadow with the way he has run things prior to the last couple seasons. Maybe he has turned the corner, but we will see. Jury is still out. However, past track records have shown trends this will probably not change. So to be hopeful is safe, to expect it is ignorant.

No he doesn't care about winning. And I'm pretty sure you just made up all of that stuff.

The problem is, he refuses to accept that the game has changed from his daddy's day. I think he does want to win, but he wants to win "His" way, which will never work in today's sports.

But, I don't think he want's to win "at all cost" like, say Robert Kraft, does. If that were the case, Brown wouldn't be the owner he is now...he would be doling out the money for players, and a GM, and scouts....He doesn't want to "win at all cost" he just wants to "win his way" so he can thumb his nose at everyone else that he finally did it and "his way" works.

Has anyone stopped to consider the fact that maybe Mike Brown is just a failure at life? I'm sick of hearing how he's such a great business person. Why would anyone say this? Is his business successful? From a financial standpoint, yes it is very successful. But he has the NFL to thank for that, not his business acumen.

Here are the facts:

-- Mike Brown inherited the Bengals from his legendary father. The Bengals exist even if Mike was never born.

-- Mike Brown has statistically been one of the worst owners in the history of professional sports.

-- Mike Brown's wealth can be directly attributed to the popularity of the NFL. There was simply now way he could lose.

-- Mike Brown has continuously refused or been slow to search for alternative ways to generate more revenue for his business.

-- Mike Brown has been continuously criticized by his employees.

-- Mike Brown has been continuously criticized by his consumers.

In short, the guy has lived a charmed life.... Simply by being the first son of a legendary coach/then owner at the exact right time to be in the NFL (look at the expansion since Mike has inherited the team), Mike has ensured he and his family many generations of wealth. With this wealth/good fortune Mike has done next to nothing for the fans that live in his 'adopted' city. Instead he has stubbornly refused to adopt good business practices that have been proven to generate results in his business. He's a real peach - Let's throw him a fucking parade.

What the F in there did I state as a fact? Wasn't it clear enough in my presentation this was my opinion. Not even sure what was in my post that would be misconstrued as a fact anywhere in there.

Maybe when I said he does things his own way instead of hiring professionals like other NFL franchises (GM's scouts, etc). Not sure how you can even disagree with that.

If you are debating my opinion on his desire to win, then you are wrong yet again, as this is a F'n opinion, never to be misconstrued with fact.

Why don't you respond appropriately, instead of just trying to stir my pot and get me to argue?

He's a genius business guy..he's managed to take one of the worst NFL teams in NFL history and still make money. don't confuse actual business with the business of running a football team. One, he's very good at. The other, not so much.

He couldn't HELP but make money. It would be impossible to lose it. As an owner of one of the 32 franchises, he is entitled to his portion of the television contract. This more than pays for all operational expenses. He did nothing to get the television contract (or at least not anything more than any other owner). It doesn't take a genius to inherit a can't miss business that simply can't fail.

So is "his way" doing it by always remaining at least $15-20 million under the cap?

Give me a break, he doesn't care about winning.

Bingo! It's impossible to lose money in the NFL. Yup, you heard it, IMPOSSIBLE!

He could not sell a single ticket all season and he'd be rolling around in millions in income.
