Let's discuss Texas defense

What the fuck happened? I watched the rrso again the other day and was amazed at how little tackling they do then to see them give up 50 to Baylor today. How did they get this bad?

It's a chicken or egg sort of question. Is it the coaching, or is it the talent? I think Manny is doing what Brent did to some degree...all of these high-powered intricate offenses don't necessarily need a defensive counterpart to stop them i.e. intricacy on the defensive side of the ball.

Mike Stoops took those kids shackles off so that they could use their athleticism to make plays and it seems to be working.

Its UNQUESTIONABLY COACHING.

The scheme is so fucking retarded it boggles the mind. Diaz's scheme is based on the DL basically allowed to stunt and attack any gap they want to, and the LBs are supposed to read them and react.......so there is basically NO gap responsibility BY DESIGN.

This also typically means they run a ton of fire zones and cover 1 on the back end. Well, all that is well and good......unless the offense decides to run 3+ wide......

And what you're also seeing is LBs that have no idea what they're supposed to do......so they rush the same gap the DT/DE is, and they get walled off from the play, which leads to HUGE holes for RBs to run through.

And then there's the whole no tackling thing.

In short, the coaches suck.

Poor poor coaching, I've only watched Texas play twice and both of those games the lack of basic fundamentals was very apparent.

All I know is Texas is playing KU next week. If they give up points to KU...all KU can do is run the ball. Texas will need to force KU to pass, but Texas is dead last in the Big 12 against the run.
